A detailed installation guide by FritsJurgens

In just a few years, pivot doors have gone from rarely seen to in demand by architects, door manufacturers and installers who want to make their spaces special and animate them. Pivot doors equipped with FritsJurgens hardware offer an easy-to-install and flexible solution for combining unlimited pivot door designs with incredible ease of installation.
The recent introduction of the pivot door can be attributed to its inherent aesthetic and functional advantages. But ultimately, it was the innovation of hinge hardware that made the installation of these doors faster and easier. These factors are currently accelerating the global desire for pivot doors everywhere.
The fact that FritsJurgens state hardware is drilled completely into the door contributes to project flexibility and cost savings in project management, as the doors can be fully installed within hours or minutes rather than days or weeks in the final phase of construction.
A revolutionary solution at your fingertips
With the addition of a heavy-duty shutter feature in your pivot door, you now have a truly transformative design element that can be molded into an endless variety of situations – large and small – offering smooth, controlled movement as an added dimension to the overall design of the door and surrounding space.

The inherent aesthetic and design possibilities that pivot doors offer architects are certainly a big factor in why pivot doors are so sought after today. But equally important are the added freedom and flexibility these doors provide for managing projects.
This also appeals to the door makers and installers, who are now able to design and build the pivot doors entirely in their own workshops, assemble all the hardware and have them installed on site at the very last minute.
Flexible project management and installation process
Managing pivot door projects with pre-existing technologies was no easy task. Considerable coordination, planning, resources and complex installations were required to install a pivot door correctly, different trades had to work together perfectly during different phases of the project.
Often the result was that the pivot door was left out, simply because no one wanted to deal with the complexity of getting the traditional floor spring into the ground. Inadequate installations and frequent removal from the project gave the pivot door a reputation as a problem child and complex to plan and install. That has all changed now.

With one simple idea, we embarked on the mission of removing an obstacle for all involved and gave way to a time-saving, cost-effective and modern approach to installing pivot doors: installing the hardware inside the door. This virtually eliminates the need for coordination between different construction phases and offers flexibility over where, when and how to install a pivot door in both new and new construction projects.

Pivot door installation with FritsJurgens Inside
Hosted by Robin Vos – Product Design Engineer at FritsJurgens
To make the installation process easier, we are introducing a new stream of YouTube instructional videos by our product engineer Robin Vos.
With his technical expertise, Robin explains the installation process in detailed videos, as well as all the components of the System M product family, the tools needed and the fine-tuning process.
After selecting the most appropriate pivot system and integrating the top and bottom hinge into the top and bottom of the door, the door can be installed.
The process varies slightly depending on FritsJurgens’ chosen hardware, but essentially boils down to four simple steps.
1. Mount the floor plate
The axis of the pivot system fits into the floor plate, thus securing the door in place. To install it, the recess must first be made in the right place in the lower sill. Since the floor plate then goes into the floor with 8 mm pins, four holes 8 mm deep must be drilled with the correct size and type of drill bit (7.5 mm diameter for wood, 8 mm for aluminum).

2. Mount the ceiling tile
The ceiling plate guides the pin of the top speun into the ceiling to secure the position of the door. After the position is determined with a point laser, a hole is drilled for the pipe on top of the ceiling tile and the screw holes can be pre-drilled.
The top of the board is then covered with glue and attached to the ceiling (you can also use screws for extra reinforcement).

3. Assemble the door
The door is easily installed by lifting the oval spindle of the System M+ or System M into the recess of the floor plate. However, the door must be placed in the open position, ideally using the Axle Wrench. Then, using the supplied Allen key, unscrew the pin in the upper spigot to fix the door between the floor and ceiling. If the pivot point is further than 280mm into your door, use the Hexagon Guide tool. Read more about this in the FAQ.

4. Adjust the door precisely
After the pivot door is installed, you can adjust its placement until it is perfectly aligned with its surroundings using the set screws on the FritsJurgens floor plate.
With the adjustment screws on the System M and M+ now located on the bottom of the door, you can adjust the movement of the door to create a perfectly smooth motion.

System M offers the ability to adjust the closing speed of the door. System M+ adds the options to customize a wider range of functionalities, such as Latch Control, 30° Speed Control and Damper Control.
