The 360 Villa family consists of a couple and their special Alaskan Malamute dogs. This time our slogan: “Living in a tailor-made suit” was given a very special charge: the customized translation of the clients’ personal living requirements also concerned the well-being of the polar dogs, which are just as important their lives. For example, they find it important to be able to keep in touch with their dogs, both indoors and outdoors. The dogs require a lot of attention and need a lot of contact with their owners. They also need a nice place outside.
Why a modern round villa?
A continuous window along the round façade ensures a 360 degree connection between inside and outside. That way visual contact with the dogs is always possible – that is why we chose a complete round villa this time with the clients.
The canopy also runs all the way around the house and provides shelter for the dogs on rainy days, regardless of the wind direction. On a sunny day, the awning provides the necessary shade. On one side of the villa, along the bedroom and the kitchen, the garden floor is raised and extends to the facade. In this way the residents can look their dogs straight in the eye because they are at the same eye level, while they are cooking or if they wish the dogs goodnight. This created hill also provides privacy on the street side. The mirrored walls on either side of the terrace also allow visual contact between the residents inside and the dogs outside.
Within the limits of a tight 85 m2 we have tried to make a spacious-looking home, in combination with guaranteeing maximum contact between the residents, their pets and the garden. The house has an open floor plan. As you can see in hotels, the bedroom, bathroom and living room are connected. If they want, the residents can close the bedroom from the living room through a sliding door.
The couple about their 360 Villa
“Regarding the slogan of 123DV” Living in a tailor-made suit “, we have now also received a tailor-made suit for our large plot in the forest. Liong immediately understood what was most important to us: openness and creating a sense of freedom, so that the interior and exterior of the house merge. 123DV has fully succeeded in achieving the desired result, without having to surrender any sense of privacy. “
“The whole process together with Liong and his team, from the first appointment to the final design, was an amazing experience! We are really looking forward to building our 360 Villa. “
On a beautiful spring day I visited the residents in their built 360 Villa and stayed with them until late in the evening. Together we recalled how the ideas for the design of their home ever came about and developed into the built result. While enjoying a delicious sushi meal we talked about the process of getting approval from the Welstand and finally getting it built, as we had promised them. After dinner we walked through the garden and at one point they said, “Do you know you have improved our lives?” I was overwhelmed by these words and felt that this is what you as an architect ultimately do for it.
