Coming home to the coast

The starting point was an apartment of no less than 200 m2 on the South Holland coast. Completely empty. The beautiful marble floor that was there was allowed to stay; otherwise, Leonie had carte blanche.

‘The owners had already enlisted our help for a previous project and came to Meijs Wonen to share their housing needs with us. The couple dreamed of a full-fledged second home. Since the apartment is in a beautiful natural area, amidst dunes and beach, the link to natural tones was quickly made.’

Intimate
‘To make such a large space cozy is still quite a challenge,’ says Leonie. ‘I decided to follow the daily schedule of my customers and respond to that. For example, I know they spend a lot of time at the dining table, like to have coffee in the morning with a view of the dunes and watch TV in the evening. By creating all those seating options at different heights, I made the space more intimate. ‘

Warm colors
‘The marble floor required a warm counterpoint. Therefore, I chose sandblasted wood and earthy tones such as dark brown and sand. The sofa also has a natural feel in a slightly chunkier fabric. Combined with brass and shine – the wallpaper, for example, incorporates a touch of white gold/metallic – and high-pile rugs that create a soft, rich look.

This is how it turned out
Leonie’s plan was immediately approved and the couple was so pleased that she was also allowed to “do” the bedroom. Then the team at Meijs Wonen went to work, working with an interior designer who provided the custom cabinets. Leonie: “The last thing I did was sink my teeth into the finishing touch; styling. For the residents, the great enjoyment could then begin. They were both very happy. Look, that’s what we do it for…’
