Contemporary farm garden

This contemporary farmhouse is an architectural gem that combines the best of both worlds: the cachet of a traditional farmhouse in a sleek design with maximum contemporary comfort. The garden design came about before construction started. Thus, both could be optimally matched. During the construction of the garden, the project took another turn: two back building lots were added so that the design almost doubled in size.

Listening swimming pond

Like a traditional homestead, the garden was divided into several zones. From a terrace with pizza oven and wellness corner with spa to an orchard and swimming pond with outdoor shower. The choice of a swimming pond was obvious: the residents wanted to look out on a beautiful-looking water feature even in winter. So I situated the planting area on the central sight axis of the home, and the view stops at a beautiful stucco-look wall with custom stainless steel water gutters. The water feature is a feast for the eyes, with seemingly floating terraces and tiles, enchanting lighting and sophisticated greenery with colorful accents. The swimming area is deliberately hidden from view a bit more so as not to mar at times when it is covered.

Thoughtful architectural elements

All “hard” elements such as the storage shed, built-in pizza oven, entrance gates, … harmonize with the home – including a repeat of the chic roof moldings. The walls are either sleek in stucco or lined with wood for a bit more warmth and a softer look. In terms of paving, there is a mix of Swedish granite boulders (driveway), baked clinkers (walkways) and Schellevis concrete (terraces and step tiles). All durable and natural materials with a robust appearance.

Grandiose green with tufts of color

This dynamic and varied garden charms with quiet grass zones, swaying ornamental grasses, playful boxwood bulbs and decorative multi-stemmed trees. Furthermore, also an orchard with old fruit trees, tight border areas in the form of a kitchen garden, a flower meadow with native herbs and a good dose of flower bulbs for a color explosion in spring. The greenbelt with shrubs provides privacy while also being a dream habitat for birds. A row of pollarded willows along the ditch borders the garden in a rural manner, while evergreen block hedges bring additional structure and delineate areas.
