Embracing History

How do you turn a stately treasure chest full of historical elements into a warm family home where you can live, live, play, and dance?
When villa “Buitenplaats Schoonoord” came on their path, they made an offer almost unseen. Stock Interiors entered the process during the final phase and took over the baton where the restoration and renovation had stopped. We saw it as our task to turn the beautiful, but somewhat chilly villa into a warm and cozy children’s home, where a lot of noise and junk can be made.
 
Eye Catchers
Rustpunt is the kitchen, where the family has breakfast together every morning. At the round table, practically equipped with wheels, so that it can be moved, there is room for everyone. The sofa in the niche is custom designed and equipped with colored cushions, which give the modern kitchen warmth. On the other side of the table are hip chairs, upholstered with a washable polyester fabric. Adjacent to the kitchen is the sitting room, which is separated from the adjacent room via original sliding doors.
 
To make these spaces less stately, an old pink color was chosen on the wall. In contrast, there are two modern wingback chairs, this keeps the whole exciting. The conservatory, originally built in 1930, now serves as a music and children’s room. The master bedroom has many original classic details, so we chose a tough, deep black, somewhat coarser grass wallpaper and modern lamps as the counterpart. The bed, on the other hand, could be a bit more elegant, with a headboard that matches the murals in terms of color and structure and an exciting, self-designed, satin bedspread. The children’s rooms each have their own design, whereby the room of the youngest daughter stands out because of the height of the ceilings and wallpaper with pictures of tree leaves.
 
“The house has brought our family closer together; no matter how big it is. The house gives a lot, that’s how it feels. Also to our friends and even to the environment. And so it has become a joy for everybody and everyone enjoys it. That is the greatest fun for us. ”
