Floating staircase with glass
For a house in Amsterdam South, we designed a staircase and balustrade to make the floors more connected.
There is already a central staircase in the hall, but a deliberate choice was made to have an eye-catcher in the living room. From the living room you can look down into the basement. We deliberately left this space open to create more connection.
The staircase gives a floating feel because the outer stringer is concealed in the wall and there is only a small tangent to the inner stringer, which disappears behind the glass profile, so that you are looking up against the end of the steel steps. The steps are deliberately kept slim to further accentuate the floating effect.
