Floating steel staircase with solid oak treads
We say it often, but perhaps this is one of our most special staircases. The structure is fixed only in the floor and against the floor. Furthermore, the thick solid oak steps float through the space in a free form. The steel stringer does all the work because the steps are not connected to the wall. A lot of fuss for a small detail, or just the attention that made this staircase unique.
Originally, this was a classroom, which never had stairs before. It is puzzling to arrive at a good shape, which works for space and ergonomics. It sometimes leads you to unusual forms that we are happy to embrace.
