In the clouds
The huge villa literally towers above the clouds with this garden design. Indeed, characteristic of this garden are the “clouds” created by Laurel, Yew and Boxwood. The foundation of the garden design is based on the straight (sight) lines from that home. Continuing this through the garden creates peace, rhythm and space. The peculiarity is that these straight lines are broken by the organic shapes of the clouds. The steps around the patio make the garden more playful, but to take it a step further, these were extended along the sides of the house. This optically raises the house a level, making it rise above the clouds. From this terrace overlooks the garden with carefully placed clouds deliberately occasionally obscuring the view. In this way, curiosity is created while creating screened seating areas. From every seating angle, every sight line is correct. Whether it runs vertically or horizontally, a different view and therefore a unique experience is created from every position. Because of the size of the garden, it is a waste to emphasize only the sight lines from the house. Looking at the house from the garden is at least as special. From the main line of sight (kitchen, dining table, pool), a unique element was placed at the back of the house: a robust black wall exactly in line with the pool provides the frame for a floating chair between an acacia frame. From this “throne” one looks out over the entire “kingdom” with all its clouds, Sonos installations, artificial grass, raised decking, custom made flower boxes, (multi-stemmed) trees, exclusive plantings, the entrance gate under the uniquely overgrown pergolas, the pool and pool house.
