Lake cabin near Bruges
This two-piece “Lake Cabin” designed by Bjorn Verlinde is constructed entirely of raw oak. Even the roof is made of 100 percent raw oak. One part can be compared to a beach cabin, which contains a high table and a low bench. In turn, the so-called “gardener’s cave” serves as a garden shed. Together they form a beautiful timeless whole with the surrounding woodland garden.
To create an interesting interplay between the oakoutbuildings and the clean line of the pontoon, both outbuildings are at a 5-degree angle to the pontoon and to each other.
The Lake Cabin is conceived as a monolithic volume with wooden folding walls that can completely close off the outbuilding. From the restored farmhouse 250 meters away, that looks more interesting than a wooden structure with windows. After all, windows from that distance show only a black hole. To still let in some natural light, there is a small window in the side wall.
In short: a unique place at the water’s edge where it is fun to hang out with friends on a nice summer day.
