Metasequoia glyptostroboides
This expansive garden, set in a beautiful landscape, was designed and landscaped by Wirtz Garden Architecture. Situated in a small valley, it was the client’s desire to plant a large number of trees. Together with the organic shape of the water feature, this creates a park-like appearance. A diverse selection of conifers can be found, with Taxodium distichum ‘Nutans’ being the most striking with its refined, elegant structure. This tree, like the planted Metasequoias, turns to a deep orange hue before dropping its needles in the fall. On the street side, a group of Sequoia sempervirens and Quercus hispanica provide a year-round green appearance. In addition, species such as the swamp oak, false cherry maple and baguette tree can also be found in this garden. The photos were taken six years after the trees were planted.
