National monument nursery house back in bloom
The residents have brought their families together in this special, nationally listed nursery home for a new beginning. The double house was designed in 1926 by ir. J.F. Berghoef (1903 – 1994) in a business-impressionist style, as part of a rose nursery.
Due to the national monumental status of the nursery home, the renovation has been designed and executed with the utmost attention to detail. It is therefore not visible on the outside that the house has been thoroughly renovated internally and completely modernized. The latter was necessary, because a large part of the interior was still in its original condition, including the lofty layout by current standards.
We brought the wishes of the residents and the preconditions of the national monument in an optimal balance. By connecting spaces on the living floor and emphasizing the length of the house, an interior was created that looks more spacious than it is, with room for everyone. The cozy sitting area can be closed off from the dining room / kitchen by large steel doors. A low storage unit connects both spaces and provides additional seating. There is also a handy workplace. Two walls have an accent color, specially matched to the paintings. *
On the top two floors are six bedrooms, two bathrooms and plenty of cupboard space under the roof beams. On that floor, the walls have been placed at an angle to make optimal use of the available space. The landing on the first floor is bathed in light thanks to the large window next to the stairs. In the basement, where the roses used to be sorted and kept (the original entrance doors are still intact), there is a large chill room with television corner, billiard table and piano. On one of the walls is a colorful mural painted by cartoonist Gerrit de Jager in his youth in the 1970s.
A report about this national monument was published in Eigen Huis & Interieur, October 2018.
