New construction in contemporary architecture
The new building consists of two parts: the rental house on the left, the lord of the manor’s office on the right. The timeless villa meets all energy requirements, including ventilation. The many large windows and the ubiquitous wood are striking. Paul Vaes: “The client is very fond of natural materials. So instead of using screens, we worked with slats against the sun.”
Modern timeless villa
Both the rental house and the office building consist of a basement, ground floor and second floor. Because the property slopes down to the right, however, the tenement house stuck out above the office that way. Paul Vaes: “So we put a small roof building on top of the office area, where it’s nice to sit and from where you have a nice view of the green outskirts around Brussels.” The transition between the rental building and the office is deliberately made of stone. For example, you don’t have a view of the tenement house from the villa, and the facade stone of the villa is reflected in the otherwise white building, even inside. That facade stone extends from the basement to the very top and is especially visible because of the floating steel staircase. The result is a modern white building, yet it does not stand out from the villa thanks to its classic elements.
