New construction modern farmhouse with thatched roof
A detached modern farmhouse with thatched roof, industrial look, sleek yet warm and a glass facade overlooking large garden.
An original long-gable style residential farmhouse is characterized by an elongated floor plan with a front house and barn, a sloping roof and a rural appearance.
We found the industrial character in the execution of the main supporting structure with exposed steel trusses. These trusses dominate a side facade where a rhythm of aluminum facades is framed by steel, both in the exterior facade and interior.
3 materials come together in the exterior facade, the thatch on the roof, the black vision steel framing and the aluminum facades.
The aluminum facades provide beautiful views of the lot and are oriented to the west. The pleasant afternoon sun shines into the home while the hot afternoon sun does not reach the living quarters.
The north end façade is all glass to provide maximum views of the spacious lot without generating too much heat in the summer.
In the house there are 2 voids with a spacious living kitchen with cabinetry in between. Both voids have a tall exposed masonry wall reminiscent of the fire wall that originally separated the living area from the barn in a long-vehicle farmhouse. In addition, the wall creates atmosphere and warmth in the home as it contrasts with the white smooth stucco, exposed concrete floor and black steel trusses.
