Old chapel is transformed into modern living studio

In recent years, therefore, more and more churches have taken on new functions. They are transformed into hotel, restaurant, sports hall or event space. And sometimes people even move into an old church, as is the case here in Kampenhout.

Architects Kris Van Hoecke and Glenn De Vroe converted the old St. Servaas Chapel into a beautiful residence.

Touching historic buildings is a delicate matter. On the outside, the chapel was left as much as possible in its original value. Inside, on the other hand, everything is modernized.

Anyway Doors was responsible for all interior doors on the ground floor.

To ensure the cleanest possible effect, block doors with a block frame in anodized aluminum were chosen. In this case, the frame is placed between the finished walls. The effect is subtle: it accentuates the doors without making them stand out. To make the look a little more special, the owners opted for built-in handles. The handle cannot hit the wall, nor can clothing get caught behind it.

From the entrance you look through a pivoting steellook door into the living room. She creates an instant wow effect: as a visitor, you immediately get a good view of what lives and moves behind the church facade.

The minimalist ‘Frame-A-Way design blends well with the rest of the pared-down interior. The hinge technology is not built into the floor or ceiling, but entirely into the door panel itself. The pivot hinges are actually anchored on top of the finished floor and against the ceiling. As a result, there is no need to install a frame, which of course has a great aesthetic added value: you get a door in its purest form. In addition, this pivot door can open 90° in either direction.
