Beautiful spots are getting harder and harder to find. The home that the builder wanted remodeled was zoned but was in a beautiful park setting. And where the heart is full, … The builder went to work himself to concretize the shape and style of his home: a rural, English cottage. With this, he stepped up to b+. A shot in the arm for Marc Westerlinck, architect for B+ to put it all together?
Zone alien and yet new construction?
Marc Westerlinck: “It is indeed possible. But there are some rules and restrictions to take into account. For example, there are guidelines for the volume of the house. You can ask for a deviation but above 1,000 cubic meters they will never allow. Now, by itself, 1,000 cubic feet does allow you to build a spacious rural family home.”
A conscious decision was made to demolish and rebuild rather than rebuild
“Rebuilding gives you more freedom, you literally start from 0 to build your dream home,” says Marc Westerlinck. The best choice when the existing home cannot meet all expectations. “In a renovation, you have to stay within the contours you are given. Maybe that’s just a tad more challenging as an architect. I often see more possibilities than the client. If you manage to amaze the client with your design then the satisfaction in a remodel may even be greater than in drawing a new home.”
