Against the forest edge of Brabant’s Mierlo, this family was given the opportunity to build. In front of this green wall, a sleek and modern house with lots of glass arose. The green atmosphere was carried through into the sleek garden.
Sleek and green: nice contrast
The large modern house is white stucco with accents of brick and wood. The lines in the garden match the lines of the house. The planting contrasts with these clean lines. At the center of the backyard is a whimsical Parrotia as a solitary tree. This tree is visible from the interior all seasons, almost literally drawing the greenery inside. In the front yard, the whimsical solitary is a Carpinus standing in the split. Needless to say, these beautiful trees are lit at night.
The large family patio is made of high-quality hardwood: it is a wooden floor, but for outdoors. Under the canopy it is nice to plop down after a long day on the fabric sofas. For eating, there is a large table with eight chairs.
Sleek garden for the whole family
At the back of the garden we find a terrace that is much more nochalant in style and atmosphere. Split was chosen there as pavement. The sturdy fireplace can be stoked with real wood; so if something gets spilled, it’s no big deal.
A real field hockey field has been built for the sporty kids. Slightly deepened, so the ball doesn’t keep flying in all directions. With real goals and a high fence to catch the balls before they fly into the neighbor’s yard!
Modern low-maintenance materials
Modern ceramic tiles were chosen in both the front and back yards. These were grouted after laying so that no weeds could grow between them. Also note the height differences in the front & back yards that have been creatively resolved. All steps are illuminated in the evening by LED spotlights.
In the front yard is a spacious parking area with stabbing port made of split. This pebble has a natural look and fits well in the green atmosphere. An additional advantage is that rainwater can settle in one’s own garden and is not drained by the sewer system.
