Unique roof garden in Dordrecht
In the middle of the historic center of Dordrecht, Erik van Gelder designed a high-quality roof garden – literally and figuratively. The garden belongs to a monumental house, the former Rhein Elbe warehouse. A special home with an expressive appearance deserves a garden that also catches the eye. Erik took up the challenge, and did the job.
Garden with a view | The outdoor space occupies three levels and offers a fantastic view of centuries-old buildings, including the “Zeepaert”: one of the best-preserved Gothic dwellings in the Netherlands. Erik took maximum account of the charm and character of the historic environment. The sophisticated lighting emphasizes the cachet of the centuries-old brick walls that define the garden.
Urban atmosphere with green touch | The eye-catchers of this roof garden are the multi-trunked trees in custom-made planters, along the path that runs parallel to the outside door. The purple water wall at the end of the line of sight is also an eye-catcher. He contrasts sharply with the rough authentic walls, but the ornamental grasses soften the transition.
