Vacation spirit in Krimpen aan den IJssel

The starting point for this garden on the river IJssel was immediately clear: create a vacation atmosphere. The design for the elevated outdoor space was drawn by Foske Groenendijk and realized by Groenregie. Previously a drafty and unsociable place, now warm and pleasant.

Entrance sets the tone
The thoroughly renovated home exudes an Ibiza-esque vibe: bright, cozy and with large glass facades that visually connect house and garden. In the front, the driveway and path to the front door were laid with half-brick tiles. A beautiful composite rhombus wall separates the driveway and outdoor room. Two voluminous pots from Atelier Square “break” the tall wall and provide a green note.

Wall as an eye-catcher
The living garden is located on the side of the house. A low stucco white wall creates a two-unit: a lounge area and an intimate terrace. Here residents spend time in privacy, thanks to the rhombus wall that provides shelter from view and drafts. The wall is simultaneously an eye-catcher with its beautiful teak color and panel in white aluminum – an artistic element that creates special shadows. Wall lighting and strategically placed spotlights among the plants give the outdoor space something magical at night.

Tough and atmospheric
In terms of materials, robust products predominate: a characterful decking terrace(Millboard Weathered Oak Driftwood), a coated aluminum pergola and planters that are sometimes organic, sometimes sleek. White and black alternate with beige, gray and wood tones – a timeless color palette in a harmonious interplay.

To enhance the vacation feeling, the plants are tropical and resistant to wind. Some of the greenery: whimsical, multi-stemmed cork oak, bamboo, sheep grass, sedge, dwarf palm and grape heath. Providing color include clematis, oleander, lavender and butterfly bush.

This garden by the water is a dream spot to celebrate the outdoors. Enclosed yet open to the IJssel River, with a pergola framing the view. Every detail contributes to the bigger picture, while the lighting adds great value.
