Villa garden in the Gooi

The owners of this luxury villa in ‘t Gooi enjoy gardening in their free time. The gardens of Piet Oudolf are an important source of inspiration for them. They asked our studio to make an inspired garden design full of experience in every season. Our landscape architects did not allow themselves to be told that twice and have therefore worked their way up with an extensive planting plan with a natural character. The planting forms a special contrast with the modern architecture of the home.

Special planting plan
There were many old plants on the edges of the wooded plot. Some trees and shrubs were very beautiful, others less so. Together with the gardener, an action plan has been drawn up to partly retain this green area during construction. For this a selection has been made of the most beautiful specimens. Later they were further supplemented with mature new planting to immediately give the garden a green structure. This all-round green hem gives the garden privacy all year round.

A lot has been done with the borders in the garden. The basis of the planting consists of ornamental grasses. These grasses give the borders structure and by repeating them in large groups, the garden acquires a calm, yet natural character. The grasses are surrounded by large groups of perennials that, with their flowering in the spring and summer, ensure that “wow effect”. The choice of perennials not only looked at color, but also at the flowering form. For example, there are spike-shaped flowers and umbel flowers. A few larger shrubs are used as solitary plants in the borders and provide a varied layering in the plants. And also important: the garden contributes to biodiversity and offers a lot of space for bees and butterflies.

Favorite place
In addition to the spacious terrace attached to the house, there is also room in the garden for a smaller seating area, namely a pit. The sitting pit was a big wish of our clients, so that they could literally turn green. You experience the lush vegetation even more in the seat pit and imagine yourself in a completely different place. Not surprisingly, right after completion, this was already the favorite seat for the family. The seating pit is styled with modern armchairs and thanks to the addition of a fire bowl you can have a drink here until the early hours.
