The strongest reading is the indoor courtyard feel: a plant-filled pocket set partly apart from the rest of the house, so the eye lands on greenery, filtered light and the pale floor rather than on a hard boundary. The result is less about a single room and more about a sequence of screens, openings and surfaces that makes bringing the outdoors in feel practical rather than decorative.

A plant-filled zone set just far enough apart

At the centre of the plan is an indoor courtyard with lots of plants, enclosed only in part. Panels and glass partitions slow the passage between the kitchen and the calmer inner zone, but they do not close it off completely. That halfway condition matters. You can still read the room beyond, yet the planting, the lower light and the layered screen create a place where the pace drops. The house does not imitate a garden; it borrows its structure, using leaves, reflections and framed views to shape the interior.

Seen from the living areas, the glass partition interior keeps the spatial connection intact. The greenery sits behind it like a soft backdrop, while the wood grid and slim vertical elements give the opening a measured rhythm. The effect is stronger than a simple divider. It works as a threshold, catching daylight and letting it pass through in strips. That is what gives the indoor courtyard feel its clarity: one part of the home remains open and social, while another gathers itself into a quieter enclosure.

How the screening makes room for privacy

The panels do more than define a border. They create a place to step away from the busier parts of the house without losing contact with them entirely. This is where the design becomes most legible. Vertical oak slats, glass and solid parts alternate, so the view is never fully blocked and never fully exposed. The house feels edited rather than enclosed. In a project with this much openness, those partial interruptions are what allow the indoor courtyard with lots of plants to function as a retreat.

Light, reflection and a slower corner of the plan

What reads as a quiet corner is built from visible contrasts: clear glazing against timber, plant texture against the smooth floor, and open sightlines against denser screening. The vertical oak slats are especially important because they break down the scale of the opening. Instead of one broad span, the eye follows a finer pattern. That movement slows the room down. It also lets the indoor courtyard feel show up from different angles, so the space changes as you walk past it rather than appearing all at once.

Oak in the kitchen, not as a backdrop but as structure

The kitchen carries the same language in a more controlled register. Flush fronts, long lines and the oak built-in kitchen give the room its order, while the countertop in stone or composite adds a lighter plane across the working surface. The material mix stays restrained: oak veneer, solid oak and a pale worktop with a subtle sheen. Nothing is overworked. Instead, the cabinetry holds the wall in place, and the worktop reads as a continuous strip that supports the room without drawing attention away from the larger spatial idea.

Black accents appear in the built-ins, cutting through the oak and keeping the composition from becoming flat. The oak and black built-ins are visible as a contrast of depth and lightness, especially where open shelves and darker storage surfaces sit beside the warmer wood. That contrast also helps the kitchen sit comfortably next to the glazed inner zone. One side is geared to use, with long cabinet runs and a clean work surface; the other opens toward planting and screened views. Together they keep the indoor courtyard feel grounded in everyday movement.

A worktop that reads clearly in the room

The stone or composite countertop is the kind of surface that quietly ties the kitchen together. It reflects a little light, shows the line of the edge and gives the oak fronts a firmer horizon. In the photography, the pale top also acts as a visual pause between the wood and the glass beyond. That is important in a room with so many layers. Without a clear work surface, the composition would blur. Here, the countertop gives the kitchen a precise edge and keeps the indoor courtyard feel from becoming too diffuse.

Details that hold the interior together

Elsewhere, the same attention to line continues in the ceiling and joinery. Light timber surfaces and integrated lighting keep the upper plane calm, while the floor runs through in a pale, hard-wearing finish that does not compete with the planting or the oak. The visual story remains consistent: measured joinery, open sightlines and carefully placed screens. Even the glazed panels feel purposeful rather than showy. They let the house move between openness and enclosure without turning the transition into an event.

The images also show how the material palette broadens beyond the kitchen. In one area, a rounded fireplace wall and stacked logs introduce a more tactile note; in another, dark built-in storage sits against the oak, giving depth to the walls. These elements are not trying to dominate the plan. They anchor it. The interior still revolves around the indoor courtyard feel, but the surrounding rooms make that central idea believable by repeating the same language of wood, glass and restrained contrast.

A collaboration shaped by measured restraint

The project is credited as a collaboration with Enzo architecten and V-studio, and the photography by Willemijn Beekman records the architecture in a way that keeps the details legible. What comes through most clearly is the discipline of the composition. Plants soften the centre, glazing keeps the connections open and oak gives the rooms a steady frame. The house does not rely on one dramatic gesture. It uses panels, slats and built-in elements to turn the indoor courtyard feel into the organising idea of the interior.

An indoor courtyard feel shaped by plants, glass partitions and oak details, with a stone composite countertop anchoring the built-in kitchen.
"_yoast_wpseo_estimated-reading-time-minutes":"
3075,2974
post-1030853","hoog_project","type-hoog_project","status-publish","hentry","hoog_category-exterior-design","hoog_category-garden-design
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.4 (Yoast SEO v27.4) -
