That idea runs through the industrial villa, where material choices are tested for the way they age, stain, and hold a line. The project avoids decorative coverings and keeps its focus on detail, proportion, and texture. Wood, stone, and different concrete finishes are compared not as abstract samples, but as tools for shaping spaces that stay legible as the years pass.

Material tests that stay visible in the finished house

What gives the project its character is the way research remains present in the architecture. In the workshop, smooth and exposed concrete are studied alongside several wood species and types of stone. Those comparisons are not hidden behind layers of finish. They show up in the mass of the building, in the way the surfaces meet, and in the contrast between rough stone texture and the more measured planes of concrete. The industrial villa is built from that material discipline.

One of the clearest references comes from the concrete mix itself. Stone dust and a porous stone material are added to cement, sand, and aggregate so the colour settles closer to the surrounding landscape. The mix is then poured into forms lined with boards of different thicknesses. That leaves a grooved surface, but also flatter horizontal strips where traces can collect. The result is not a polished skin. It is a concrete patina that looks made for weather, dust, and sediment.

Horizontal stone cladding and the long lines of the volume

The exterior reads in long bands. Horizontal stone cladding breaks down the mass without softening it, while large glass openings cut through the heavier surfaces and bring reflection into the composition. The villa has the weight of a compact volume, yet the glazing opens it to wide views and pulls daylight deep into the interior. From one angle the house feels closed and solid; from another, the openings loosen the mass and show how carefully the proportions are set.

Stone remains the dominant register, but its role is not merely structural. The horizontal lines guide the eye across the building and make the length of the façade more apparent. Overhangs and layered edges add shadow, so the surfaces change through the day. The material does not aim to look pristine. It carries the kind of variation that makes a large house feel tied to rock, terrain, and the marks left by time.

A pool terrace edged in stone

The industrial villa pool sits beside the house as a clear extension of that material logic. Its long rectangular shape is framed by natural stone edges, which give the waterline a firmer outline. The terrace does not compete with the architecture. It stays low, direct, and tied to the same restrained palette. Seen together, the pool and the heavy volumes of the house create a measured contrast between still water, pale stone, and the darker bands of glazing.

Light changes the reading of this area quickly. On bright days the stone edges sharpen, and the water reflects the surrounding volume with little distraction. The pool terrace supports the building’s industrial villa identity because it keeps the focus on planes, edges, and the relation between solid and void. Nothing here is over-described. The detail is in the way the basin, the coping, and the adjacent wall surfaces lock into one another.

Monolithic concrete interior with clear shadows

Inside, the mood becomes more compressed. The monolithic concrete interior is built from large, direct planes, with visible slab lines and crisp junctions that leave the structure readable. Corners are squared off, openings are cut with certainty, and light enters as a shape rather than as a diffuse wash. In several images, a long diagonal streak of daylight lands on the wall and turns the concrete into a measured field of light and shade. The surfaces stay quiet, but they are never blank.

There are also moments where concrete acts as furniture as much as as construction. A built-in bench-like element sits against the wall in one area, while block-like niches and angular recesses break up the otherwise strict enclosure. These pieces keep the room from becoming inert. They show how the same material can define a passage, hold a pause, or frame a turn. The industrial villa uses those shifts to keep the interior compact and legible.

Wood details soften the hard surfaces

Wood appears in smaller measures, mostly as lining and detail rather than as a dominant finish. That restraint matters. Against the concrete and stone, the timber inserts register as a change in grain, not a decorative interruption. They mark edges, line parts of the wall zone, and help the interior move between harder surfaces without introducing visual noise. The result is a room sequence where each material keeps its own role.

The contrast is strongest where wood is placed near exposed concrete and rougher stone. The eye moves from the smoother timber surface to the granular wall and then to the more monolithic slabs above. Because the palette is limited, every joint and transition becomes more visible. The project does not try to hide those meetings. It uses them to sharpen the industrial villa’s interior identity and to make the material research feel direct rather than theoretical.

Decorative layers are left out on purpose

Modernist thinking shapes the whole approach here. Decoration is stripped away, including wall coverings and façade treatments, so the building can be read through its structure and its surfaces alone. That choice gives the industrial villa a plainspoken quality: stone is allowed to remain stone, concrete remains concrete, and the patina is not corrected away. What might be seen as wear in another context is treated here as evidence of time passing across the material.

That attitude also affects the way the house sits in relation to its setting. The concrete mix was adjusted to merge more closely with the surrounding nature, and the grooved surfaces were designed to hold traces of vegetation debris and marine sediment. Those deposits would settle into the horizontal parts of the formwork, leaving the surface with a lived-in density. In that sense, the industrial villa is less about resisting change than about accepting it as part of the material finish.

Seen as a whole, the project stays committed to a narrow set of elements: stone, concrete, glass, and a limited use of wood. Yet the sequence never feels repetitive because the detail shifts from the exterior’s horizontal stone cladding to the monolithic concrete interior and then out to the industrial villa pool. The same discipline governs each part of the house. Materials are chosen not for display, but for the way they hold light, receive marks, and carry a concrete patina over time.

An industrial villa shaped by concrete patina, stone, wood, large glass openings and a restrained monolithic interior.
"_yoast_wpseo_estimated-reading-time-minutes":"
3075
post-1081698","hoog_project","type-hoog_project","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","hoog_category-exterior-design
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.4 (Yoast SEO v27.4) -
