The villa renovation opens up the former 1990s layout into a brighter interior where sightlines run through the entrance and into the living spaces. Walls were removed to make room for a broader flow, while the double-height hall gives the plan a clear centre. Around it sit a study-playroom, guest toilet, utility room and the main living area, tied together by iron-framed doors that keep the view open.

Open living area with strong sightlines and natural light

The entrance hall rises through two levels, and that extra height is felt immediately. Light reaches deep into the plan, reflecting off pale walls and glazed openings. Instead of a series of closed rooms, the ground floor reads as a connected sequence. The hall leads directly to the living zones, yet each corner still has a clear use. That shift is what gives the open-plan living its character: nothing feels crowded, but the rooms are not left empty either.

Iron doors introduce a lighter kind of separation. They mark the transition between the hall and the main living spaces without blocking the view. In the background, the arrangement around the hall stays practical and legible: a study or playroom to one side, storage and service spaces nearby, and the main daily rooms beyond. The result is a bright interior with enough openness to read as one whole, while still giving each zone its own edge.

The kitchen sits at the centre of daily life

The kitchen occupies the middle of the living space, with an island that works as a clear anchor. Dark custom cabinetry frames the room and contrasts with the lighter walls and stone-look surfaces. Pendants hang low over the work area, drawing the eye to the centre without making the room feel heavy. This is where the plan becomes most practical: there is space to cook, move, and stand around the island, with the kitchen treated as part of the living room rather than a separate back-of-house zone.

Material choices keep the room grounded. The worktop and splashback read as marble or stone-look surfaces, while the cabinet fronts bring in a deeper tone that sharpens the lines of the room. The kitchen is not oversized for the sake of it; it is arranged to serve everyday use, with enough room for the hobby cook the brief describes. Seen from the living area, it belongs naturally to the wider multifunctional home and helps define the rhythm of the floor plan.

Custom cabinetry and a clear lighting plan

Across the ground floor, the storage is handled with the same restraint. Dark custom cabinetry appears again in adjacent zones and corridor-like transitions, keeping clutter out of sight and letting the architecture stay readable. The fitted elements do more than store objects. They set the line of the wall, guide movement, and give the interior a steady visual weight. In the living room, this approach continues in a wall with a built-in fireplace niche, where the opening and the surrounding paneling create a focal point without breaking the room apart.

Lighting is used in layers rather than as a single statement. Ceiling spots, pendant lights and warm accent points shape the evening atmosphere and separate the rooms by use rather than by walls. That lighting plan is visible in the living room, where the seating area is lit differently from the kitchen work zone, and in the passages where small warm points soften the darker joinery. The house relies on that mix of direct and indirect light to keep the spaces readable after dark.

Living room zones around the fireplace

The living room has been opened into a broad, light-filled space with more than one sitting area. A sofa sits near the large windows, where greenery outside becomes part of the view. Across the room, a built-in fireplace niche brings a strong horizontal line into the wall. The room does not depend on a single central gesture; it is broken into usable parts by furniture placement, wall depth and light. That makes the space feel lived in, not staged.

Architectural details keep the room from turning plain. Dark wall panels run beside the lighter envelope, and the ceiling shape gives the room a subtle frame. The windows pull daylight across the floor, while blinds and curtains soften it without hiding the view. This is where the lighting plan matters most: the room holds together at night because the ceiling spots, pendants and the fireplace wall work as a set of marks rather than as isolated fixtures.

Separate family wings upstairs

Upstairs, the plan changes again. The floor is divided into separate wings for children and parents, which gives the house a clear family logic. The transitions are quieter here, with corridor spaces, built-in storage and sloped ceilings shaping the movement between rooms. One image shows a hallway-like zone with full-height cabinetry and a central opening, another a loft area where storage panels follow the roofline. These are not leftover spaces; they carry the circulation and keep the upstairs organised.

The built-in storage in these upper areas stays visually calm, with flush fronts and warm light tucked into the edges. That approach keeps the route between rooms clean and gives the upper floor a steady backdrop for everyday use. The storage walls also help frame the different zones, so the children’s wing and the parents’ area remain distinct without needing dramatic changes in material or colour. It is a measured way of handling a multifunctional home that has to work on more than one level.

Parent suite with dressing and terrace access

The parent suite is the quietest part of the house. A dressing room leads to the master bedroom, and from there the plan opens toward a roof terrace. The sequence matters: storage first, then sleeping space, then outdoor air. In the bathroom, stone-look finishes, a double basin and a large oval mirror create a room with a softer edge than the rest of the house. The fittings sit against dark under-cabinet panels, while a central opening in the wall keeps the composition from becoming too closed.

This suite carries the clearest wellness bathroom reference in the project. A freestanding bath appears in one view, lit by pendant lamps that hang low enough to register as part of the room rather than decoration. The materials stay restrained: light walls, stone-like surfaces and warm beige tones in the niche wall. The effect comes from spacing and light, not from excess. It feels like a room designed for pause, with the master suite with dressing functioning as a separate retreat rather than an added luxury block.

Details that keep the home personal

Furniture and decoration help the renovation feel inhabited. Selected pieces from an interior shop bring in softer forms alongside the sharp cabinetry and stone surfaces, so the house does not rely only on built-in elements. A sofa, a low table, curtains and a few well-placed lamps give the rooms a domestic scale. These additions are important because the architecture itself is quite clear and structured; the movable pieces temper that structure without hiding it.

Across the whole house, the strongest impression comes from how the rooms are linked. The hall opens to the living area, the kitchen anchors the centre, the lounge splits into zones, and the upper floor separates family life without making the house feel divided. Materials stay consistent, but the uses shift from room to room. That is what gives this villa renovation its pace: open where it needs to be, enclosed where privacy matters, and always guided by light, storage and the way people move through the plan.

Furniture and decoration supplied by an interior shop

Photography by Yannick Milpas

A 1990s villa transformed into an open, light-filled home with a central kitchen, layered lighting, custom storage and a calm parent suite.
"_yoast_wpseo_estimated-reading-time-minutes":"
2967,2983,2984
post-1082490","hoog_project","type-hoog_project","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","hoog_category-bathroom-ideas","hoog_category-kitchen-ideas","hoog_category-living-room-ideas
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.4 (Yoast SEO v27.4) -
