The original structure was beyond repair, so it was dismantled and rebuilt from the ground up with a new foundation and a fresh timber frame. That reset is visible before anything else: the roofline sits lightly on the new structure, while the exposed rafters keep the interior tied to the logic of the roof itself. It reads as an outbuilding conversion, but one that lets the new use show through every surface.

Visible rafters under the thatch

The ceiling does not hide the roof construction. With no boarding on the inside of the thatch, the texture continues downward and leaves the timber frame open to view. Those visible timber rafters give the room its rhythm, especially where the lines of the roof meet the lower walls and built-in elements. Instead of smoothing everything over, the design keeps the structure legible. That choice gives the garden poolhouse a clear character, shaped by wood, thatch and the direct geometry of the new frame.

From the inside, the roof feels close and expressive rather than sealed off. The thatch softens the profile above the seating and dining areas, while the timber structure runs across the room in a way that marks each zone without extra partitions. In the photographs, the beams are not decorative afterthoughts; they are the main lines in the interior. Together with the earthy wall tones, they make the shell of the building part of the living space itself.

Terrace glazing that keeps the garden in view

Large terrace glazing opens the poolhouse toward the garden and gives the room a sheltered edge. You can sit out of the wind while still looking straight onto the terrace and the greenery beyond it. That connection is strongest in the seating area, where the glass reaches almost like a threshold rather than a separate wall. It is a poolhouse with glazing that keeps the outdoor setting close, even when the weather pushes everyone inward.

The glazed side also changes how the room is used in the cooler months. When the wood stove is lit, the glass helps hold the warmth inside, so the same space works beyond summer. The project was clearly designed for those in-between periods, when the garden is still part of the experience but the air calls for cover. In the images, the lounge sits beside a broad opening to the terrace, and the room reads as a protected place to stay near the water and the garden without losing the view.

A lounge defined by light and shelter

The exterior image shows the poolhouse as a compact shelter beside the terrace, with the thatched roof reaching over a glazed wall and a covered seating zone. The material contrast is simple and effective: straw-colored thatch above, stone and timber below, glass in between. Nothing is overworked. The result is a garden poolhouse that does not compete with the setting; it frames it. From the terrace, the building feels open enough for daily use, yet enclosed enough to hold its own in colder weather.

Earth tones, stone details and a green accent

Inside, the palette stays close to the building materials. Earth-tone interiors bring the walls, joinery and soft furnishings back to a muted base, so the eye stays on the roof structure, the glazing and the built-in features. The room uses browns, sand shades and pale neutrals rather than anything sharp or glossy. That restraint lets the wood and stone surfaces do the work, and it keeps the poolhouse from drifting into a decorative scheme that would fight the shell of the building.

A green accent appears in the table and the rug, which is enough to pick up the surrounding garden without turning the room into a themed space. The colour is quiet but deliberate. In the photographs it sits against the earth tones and the lighter upholstery, giving the seating area a link to the view outside. The same approach appears in the fixed elements, where stone-like surfaces and timber finishes anchor the room and keep the materials honest.

Built-in elements around the hearth zone

One of the clearest details is the stone-like built-in zone around the hearth. It gives the poolhouse a focal point without turning it into a formal living room. The fireplace or wood stove area sits beside open shelving and built-in surfaces, and the rougher texture contrasts with the smoother timber around it. That combination supports the idea of a poolhouse with a wood stove: a space that can be used with the doors open to the terrace, or with the fire taking the edge off the air once the season turns.

Elsewhere, the fixed joinery follows the same logic. The dining image shows a wall with a stone-like backdrop and open shelves, while the wash area in another photograph uses a similar material language, with a rounded basin set into a textured surround. These details do not shout for attention, but they keep the room grounded. In a structure with a new frame and a visible roof, that kind of restraint matters.

Rooms arranged around the frame

The plan seems to have been shaped by the rebuilt structure rather than by loose furniture first. A dining area, seating corner and hearth zone all sit under the same exposed timber canopy, but each one has its own position in relation to the glass and the roof lines. The round table beneath the hanging shades sits under the rafters, while the lounge pulls toward the terrace opening. That makes the interior feel straightforward to read, even with several functions sharing one room.

Looking across the poolhouse, the materials repeat with purpose: timber above, stone in the fixed elements, soft textiles in the seating, and thatched roof outside and in view. The project never tries to disguise its origins as a former outbuilding. Instead, it uses the new foundation, the rebuilt timber frame and the roof structure to create a clear, practical shell for garden living. The result is a poolhouse where the indoor-outdoor movement feels built into the structure, not added afterward.

Across the photographs, the same set of decisions keeps returning: open rafters, terrace glazing, neutral walls and a measured use of colour. That consistency gives the garden poolhouse its character. Not from ornament, but from how the new construction meets the old use and turns it into a place for sitting, eating and staying near the garden when the weather changes.

The project reads as a precise outbuilding conversion rather than a cosmetic makeover. By rebuilding the shell, leaving the thatch visible inside and placing the living areas against the glass, the design lets the structure explain itself. The room feels rooted in its materials, with the wood stove, earth-tone interior and stone details giving the space enough weight to stand up to the open views outside.

A former outbuilding becomes a poolhouse with thatched roof, visible timber rafters, terrace glazing and an earth-tone interior.
"_yoast_wpseo_estimated-reading-time-minutes":"
2984
post-1084624","hoog_project","type-hoog_project","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","hoog_category-living-room-ideas
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.4 (Yoast SEO v27.4) -
