Around it, the garden keeps a measured rhythm: hard surfaces, clipped edges and planting beds that soften the geometry without blurring it. Because the garden design was developed alongside the architectural plans, the practical details could be placed where they belong rather than corrected later. Drainage points were integrated into the driveway, and the large custom concrete paving slabs were installed before the facade work to prevent damage. Those decisions remain visible in the finished result. The hard landscape reads cleanly, and the surfaces meet each other without awkward shifts in level or material. A weather-based irrigation system supports the planting and keeps the garden looking fresh through changing conditions.<\/p>\n
The result is not a garden that was added around the house. It feels set into the same drawing. Black window frames, wide glass openings and the horizontal roof lines make that easy to read from the terrace, where the waterline runs parallel to the architecture and repeats its long, low proportions.<\/p>\n
Placed exactly between the main volume and the pool house, the biological pool works as the centre of the composition. It is aligned with the side wall of the patio, so the edge of the water follows the same direction as the built space. That keeps the pool legible from several angles. From one side, it reads as a long reflective band. From another, it becomes part of the route across the garden, bordered by lawn and planting rather than isolated as a separate object.<\/p>\n
The pool\u2019s infinity character adds a clear visual break at the far edge. Water appears to stop at the line, then continue into the surrounding garden. That effect stays understated because the rest of the setting is restrained: straight joints in the paving, narrow border lines, and a low level transition from terrace to lawn. The biological pool garden depends on those exact relationships, not on decoration.<\/p>\n
Although the layout is based on strong lines, the planting pulls the space in a different direction. Beech hedge planting forms soft cloud-like masses, while loose prairie planting breaks up the hard geometry with movement and seasonal texture. Echinacea, Gaura, Verbena, Echinops and Achillea \u2018terracotta\u2019 add colour in scattered groups rather than in fixed blocks. At the back of the garden, low mounds planted with Salix rosmarinifolia create privacy without using a heavy wall or fence. Their soft outline changes the edge of the garden and hides part of the boundary in a more planted way. In the front garden, a large Liquidambar provides shade and anchors the approach with a single stronger tree form. It stands apart from the lower border planting and helps define the arrival sequence before the eye moves toward the pool and terrace.<\/p>\n
Rounded gestures appear in the border grass profiles and in the sun deck on tile supports. That deck sits on a wooden substructure, so the material remains present but visually light. It mirrors the curved direction of some planting beds and eases the transition between the rigid pool edge and the softer border shapes. These details are small, yet they change how the whole garden is read from the house.<\/p>\n
Some of the most important moves here are the least visible. The custom concrete slabs were positioned with the facade work in mind, which helped protect the building during construction. The driveway integration of the drainage elements also keeps the surface calm. Instead of interrupting the paving later, the technical parts were inserted into the plan from the beginning. That is why the ground plane feels settled, even though it contains several functions.<\/p>\n
The same approach appears around the terrace and pool house zone, where concrete, wood, glass and gravel meet in controlled bands. The materials are not trying to merge into one another. They are kept distinct, and the joining lines stay sharp. That makes the biological pool garden easy to read: a structured composition with soft planting, a long pool waterline, and a sun deck on tile supports that sits lightly beside the house.<\/p>\n
The house itself was designed and built through a collaboration between Basic Architects and ABS bouwteam, and the garden plan followed that same joined process. In practice, that meant the exterior spaces could be coordinated with the building sequence rather than adjusted after the fact. The result is a project where the terrace edges, paving, planting and pool placement are all tied to the same spatial logic.<\/p>\n
For the pool and paving, specific material choices reinforce that logic. The custom concrete slabs set the tone for the hardscape, while the PPC infinity bio pool introduces the water element without breaking the line of the plan. Carropools produced the pool, and the infinity transition keeps the water feature visually connected to the garden around it. Seen together, the house, pool house and planting beds form one measured outdoor composition, with each line placed to keep the next one clear.<\/p>\n
Even in the photographs, that measured order is evident. Large glass panels open the house to the garden, and the water reflects the white volumes, black frames and overhangs above. The lawn runs right up to the water\u2019s edge in places, while the border planting and gravel strips hold their own narrow bands. What remains is a garden that moves between precision and softness, with the biological pool garden as its central line.<\/p>\n
