Below it, red brick and dark wood split the house into distinct parts, giving the rural modern villa a clear rhythm from the first glance. The living area sits behind the brick volume, while the office is tucked away behind a wooden screen, so the exterior reads in layers rather than as one closed block. Large openings and slim dark frames keep the house connected to the garden and the water beyond.<\/p>\n
The roofline is thick and soft at the same time. The thatch drops over the upper volume and pulls the house back into the landscape, while the brick base gives it weight at ground level. Dark timber trims parts of the composition and makes the lighter brick feel more exact. Seen from the entrance zone with its paved surface, the villa has the measured presence of a rural modern villa rather than a house that tries to dominate its setting.<\/p>\n
Glazing is used with restraint. A series of wide openings breaks up the brick and timber, and the dark frames keep the edges sharp. From outside, those openings already suggest the open sight lines inside, where the house reaches through to the water. The exterior does not flatten into a single front. It changes with each material shift, each opening, and each change in height under the roof.<\/p>\n
Inside, the space opens immediately into a double-height living space. The vertical void rises all the way to the ridge, and that height is felt before it is fully understood. Light comes down from above and spreads across the floor, while the line of the steel pivot doors pulls the eye straight across the room. They do not just divide spaces; they frame long views that continue to the water and make the plan feel unusually deep.<\/p>\n
There is movement in the way the rooms are experienced. One moment the view is wide, with glass doors and broad openings; the next it narrows to a smaller cut-out or a corner framed by a wall. That variation keeps the interior from feeling flat. Even with an open layout, each area has its own scale, and the transition from one zone to another is marked by light, height, and the position of the glazing.<\/p>\n
The glass doors are one of the clearest spatial tools in the house. Their steel edges draw a line through the living area and keep the sight line active even when the doors are closed. Behind them, the dark stone kitchen appears as a solid block in the distance, while the rest of the room stays open and pale. The result is not a single uninterrupted hall, but a sequence of views that change as you move.<\/p>\n
That sequence also pulls the landscape into the room. Water, greenery, and the edges of the garden arrive through the openings instead of being treated as a backdrop. The house is arranged so that outside and inside remain visibly linked, yet the walls still create enough enclosure for the rooms to feel defined. This tension gives the rural modern villa its character.<\/p>\n
Oak beams run across the interior and soften the sharpness of the architecture. Their grain is visible against the pale ceiling and walls, and they add a slower note to the otherwise crisp lines. The house uses very few materials, which makes each one more noticeable: oak in the structure, stone underfoot, smooth wall finishes, and steel at the doors. Nothing feels decorative for its own sake.<\/p>\n
Pava Lavasteen appears on the floors and on parts of the walls, giving the rooms a calm, mineral surface. It sits comfortably beside the oak beam interior and the darker elements of the kitchen. The material is described here not as a finish with a showy effect, but as something that holds the rooms together visually. Its texture and colour keep the interior steady, even when daylight changes across the day.<\/p>\n
That same restraint continues in the living areas. A fireplace wall, broad glazing and pale surfaces sit around the room without crowding it. The eye moves from the floor to the beams, then to the window line and back again. Because the palette stays quiet, the volume of the double-height living space becomes the main event. Materials support that volume rather than competing with it.<\/p>\n
The kitchen is anchored by a dark stone kitchen bar and worktop arrangement that reads almost like a solid slab in the room. It gives the cooking zone a clear edge and introduces a darker note against the oak and pale walls. Nearby, the joinery in eikenhout continues the language of the rest of the house, so the kitchen feels embedded in the plan instead of set apart as a separate stage.<\/p>\n
A staircase with wooden treads leads upward with an open profile. The balustrade stays light, which keeps views through the house intact as you climb. On the upper level, a gallery catches daylight from skylights and brings another layer of brightness into the plan. That overhead light is different from the large ground-floor windows: it falls more directly, making the circulation zone feel distinct from the living rooms below.<\/p>\n
The bathroom follows the same disciplined palette, but the fittings make the room read more clearly. A double vanity is set against a stone-like surface, and the walk-in shower zone is separated by glass so the room still feels open. The darker finishes near the wet area contrast with the lighter wood of the vanity, and that contrast is what gives the room definition. It belongs to the house without borrowing attention from the main living spaces.<\/p>\n
Across the villa, the strongest impressions come from proportion, light and material weight. The double-height living space, the open sight lines and the oak beam interior all work together with the rieten roof outside and the lavasteen inside. The house does not rely on decorative gestures. It uses openings, surfaces and structure to shape daily movement, and that is where its clarity lies.<\/p>\n
