Glazing runs the length of the upper level, catching the trees first and the rooms second. In this modern villa with glass facade<\/a>, the view is not treated as a backdrop; it is part of the room arrangement. The house sits into a slope, so the profile stays low against the dune top while the upper volume opens wide and the lower level retreats from sight. Glass, timber and concrete set the tone from the first approach.<\/p>\n

Glass at the upper level, timber where privacy matters<\/h2>\n

The upper construction is made of large glass panes with slim profiles, interrupted by closed timber volumes that hold the private rooms. That shift changes the pace inside. One moment the plan opens to the landscape; the next it narrows around wood surfaces and screened edges. The timber is Mansonia, used here not as a decorative layer but as a way to temper light and shape privacy. Horizontal wood slat screens for shading<\/a> sit in front of the glazing and filter the sun without blocking the view completely.<\/p>\n

A free, meandering plan lets the transparent parts stay open and fluid. The more enclosed timber volumes sit within that openness like fixed anchors. They hold bedrooms and quieter spaces, while the glass zones keep the green surroundings in sight. From outside, the contrast between the clear upper band and the darker timber sections gives the house a long, low reading across the terrain. It is a landscaped villa<\/a> in the direct sense: built around what is already there, not placed on top of it.<\/p>\n

A cantilever roof line that seems to hover<\/h2>\n

Above the upper volume, the roof extends beyond the glass in a sharp cantilever. Its underside stays clean and light, and in a few places slender cross-shaped steel columns carry the edge. Those supports were made specifically for the project, and their thin lines keep the roof from feeling heavy. The overhang does more than draw a clear silhouette. It shades the glass, frames the terrace edges and gives the whole house a horizontal emphasis that suits the dune setting.<\/p>\n

Because the roof projects so far, the rooms below read as sheltered without becoming closed. You see that most clearly where the ceiling line continues over the living areas and turns the perimeter into a deep threshold. The result is not a blunt box but a layered section: open glass below, a timber band behind it, and the roof hovering above. That layering keeps the interior connected to the green site while maintaining a sense of enclosure where it is needed.<\/p>\n

Light controlled by timber and overhang<\/h3>\n

The timber screens work with the roof overhang rather than against it. On sunny sides, the slatted elements soften the glass front and cut the strongest light before it reaches the rooms. The effect is visible in the way the glazing stays readable even when the sun hits it directly. Instead of a flat reflective skin, the facade keeps depth, with shadows catching on the slats and at the edges of the profiles. In a house of glass, those pauses matter.<\/p>\n

The hidden lower level opens through cuts in the terrain<\/h2>\n

Below ground, the tone changes. The lower construction holds the garage, hobby space and guest accommodation, but it does not feel sealed off from the site. Cuts in the landscape bring daylight into the basement rooms, and a sunken terrace makes it possible to walk straight outside from below. That terrace is one of the clearest moves in the project: it turns the lower level from a concealed zone into a place with air, views and its own outdoor edge. It also keeps the building mass smaller in the landscape.<\/p>\n

The stair linking both parts of the house carries Venetian plaster, with a colour shift that recalls shells and the nearby sea. It is a subdued surface, but it changes the transition between upper and lower levels. The stair does not just connect floors; it marks the move from the open, glazed upper zone to the more inward basement level. That transition is reinforced by light from the cuts in the terrain and by the visible concrete surfaces inside the lower construction.<\/p>\n

In the basement, the concrete is left visible and its colour has been chosen to match the dune sand around it. Where exterior concrete walls remain exposed, spruce plank formwork leaves a clear grain in the surface. Those impressions give the walls a rougher reading and make the material feel tied to the site rather than detached from it. The walls continue outward as retaining walls, holding the house in the slope and making the landscape part of the structure.<\/p>\n

Concrete, glass and wood read as one construction<\/h2>\n

The material palette is narrow, which helps the house stay legible. Glass sets the upper level apart, timber softens the private rooms, and concrete grounds the lower part of the structure. None of those materials is pushed into a decorative role. The concrete is structural and visible. The wood screens protect and filter. The glass opens the view and admits light. Together they build a clear reading of the house from top to bottom, from the transparent upper zone to the heavier base.<\/p>\n

That clarity is especially visible in the long exterior lines, where the concrete walls extend beyond the house and the roof projects over the glazing. The whole composition sits on a slope, but it does not rely on gestures. Instead, the sections and edges do the work. The house appears calm because each element has a distinct task: supporting, screening, opening or holding. Even from a distance, the difference between the exposed lower mass and the lighter upper volume is easy to read.<\/p>\n

Interior details follow the architecture closely<\/h2>\n

Inside, the design continues with built-in details rather than loose objects. The integrated handrail, hidden doors, kitchen furniture and bathrooms were all drawn as part of the same overall composition. That approach keeps the focus on lines, edges and junctions. A handle disappears into a panel; a door sits flush with the wall; the stair rail follows the movement of the core. The interior does not interrupt the architecture. It extends it in smaller moves and tighter tolerances.<\/p>\n

The project works as a daylight-rich interior project<\/a> as much as a house in the landscape. Large openings pull in the green outside, while the lower rooms use cuts in the ground to borrow light from above. You feel that shift in the circulation between levels and in the way the rooms alternate between openness and enclosure. The living spaces are bright and outward-looking; the lower rooms are calmer, with concrete and plaster setting a more compressed mood.<\/p>\n

Energy systems hidden behind the calm surface<\/h3>\n

Technically, the house is energy neutral. Heating and cooling run through a ground-source heat pump, and the roof is used as a raised solar field. Rainwater from the roof is collected for watering the garden. Triple glazing is used throughout, with solar-control glass on the more exposed sides. Combined with the deep roof overhang and the timber slats, those measures reduce summer heat gain without changing the visual order of the house. The systems stay in the background, while the form of the building remains clear.<\/p>\n

What stays after the technical layer is a house that reads through section, light and material. The transparent upper volume, the screened timber rooms, the concrete lower level and the sunken terrace basement all belong to the same composition.
