The footprint follows the tapered plot, and that decision sets the tone for everything that comes after: the approach, the entry, the views toward the garden, and the way light reaches through the plan. The result is not a straightforward front-to-back layout. It unfolds in stages, with the carport and entrance placed in the front elevation so arrival is slowed down before the door finally comes into view.

Arrival guided by the plot

The entrance zone repeats the funnel idea in a quiet way. Visitors are led along the façade rather than straight inside, and a slanted screen in the front wall pulls daylight down to the basement level. That lower floor contains the parents’ night rooms, so the opening does more than mark the entrance. It brings light into a part of the house that would otherwise sit hidden below ground. Seen from the outside, the sharp line of the glazed corner at the upper level reinforces that pulled-in geometry.

Inside, the funnel-shaped house keeps that sense of withheld revelation. The cloakroom sits between the door and the living areas, so the first view is interrupted by a cabinet wall and only opens after coats have been hung away. A box-in-box volume follows, containing the toilet, stairs, and storage. It works as a compact core, but it also shapes the route through the house and delays the first full view of the garden.

Courtyard daylight reaching deep into the home

At the center of the plan, a courtyard between kitchen and seating area pulls daylight into the middle of the home. It is a small opening, but it changes the scale of the rooms around it. Light enters from one side, then continues through the stair, where it becomes a soft streak across the dining area. This is daylight-focused architecture in a very direct sense: not added as an effect, but threaded through the house by openings that cut through the plan.

The interior materials help that light register more clearly. Concrete, wood, and granito-like floors return throughout the rooms, so the eye keeps reading the same surfaces from one zone to the next. The palette is restrained, yet the changes in texture are easy to notice: a concrete table extending from the kitchen island, warm timber cabinetry, and the harder surface of the floor underfoot. In a modern house with courtyard, that repetition gives the rooms a steady rhythm without flattening the plan.

Light entering through the stair and the glazing

The stair does more than connect levels. It acts as a light path, carrying skimming daylight toward the dining space and helping the upper floor feel connected to the rooms below. Along the front, the glazing follows the funnel shape in a sharp angle and runs from the upper level down to the basement. That single glass plane makes the vertical section legible. It also opens the house to the garden, where the long view across the interior and exterior becomes part of daily movement.

A covered terrace with skylights and a pool

Outside, the terrace is arranged as a sequence rather than a single paved surface. A covered dining area sits under round skylights of different diameters, and the openings send bright reflections across the terrace floor and the pool. The ceiling pattern gives the space a clear direction. It draws the eye upward, then back down to the water and the stone paving around it. As a house with pool, the project keeps the water close to the main rooms, not detached at the edge of the site.

A second terrace beside the pool offers a separate place in the sun. That simple shift in position changes how the garden is used. One zone is sheltered and animated by the skylights; the other is open and still. Together they turn the outdoor area into a set of distinct rooms, each defined by light, shade, and the surfaces around them. The covered terrace with skylights therefore becomes more than an add-on. It is part of the way the house reads the plot.

Stone, glass, and brown-toned frames

The exterior material rhythm is held together by recurring brown tones in the brickwork and the window frames. Glass is used with minimal visible joints, which strengthens the direct link between inside and outside. One of the most striking moments is the angled window on the upper front level, where the glass follows the funnel shape exactly. Because that glass plane drops over several levels to basement height, the front of the house feels cut open rather than simply glazed.

That same clarity appears in the broader composition. The stone surfaces on the façade, the dark window framing, and the large panes of glass keep returning in similar proportions. The geometry is not decorative. It is tied to the shape of the plot and the route through the house, from the covered carport to the angled entry and then toward the garden. In photographs, the massing reads as a sequence of folded planes and long openings rather than a single solid volume.

Wood and concrete interior shaped by long views

Once inside, the funnel-shaped house reveals its rooms in layers. The living spaces open toward the courtyard and garden, but not all at once. Sightlines are held back by cabinetry and the central core, so the interior keeps offering partial views before the full composition appears. That controlled sequence makes the wood and concrete interior feel measured. A timber wall, a stone-like worktop, and the concrete table extension from the kitchen island are easy to read because each surface is given room.

The dining area can be used in two ways: tucked into its own sheltered position or at the concrete table that grows from the kitchen island. It is a small change, yet it alters how the room works. Around it, the kitchen finishes remain quiet, and the adjoining seating area stays open to the courtyard light. The house does not rely on ornament. It uses route, section, and material continuity to create its pace, and that is what stays with you after the first walk through.

Two upper-floor worlds

The upper floor belongs to the children. Three bedrooms are arranged there, with two linked by a sliding door. The night hall is used as a work area and a sitting zone, so the circulation space is not wasted. A sliding door can close off the stair to this part of the house, turning the level into a separate domain when needed. Below, the parents sleep on basement level, where a bedroom, dressing room, and bathroom sit behind the lowered light of the glazed opening and patio.

That split between levels gives the house a clear internal order. Children above, parents below, living spaces in the middle, and light drawn inward from courtyard, stair, and front glazing. It is a precise arrangement, but not a rigid one. The rooms still shift with daylight and movement, and the funnel-shaped house keeps revealing new angles as you cross from one volume to the next.

A funnel-shaped house with courtyard daylight, a covered terrace with skylights, a pool, and a layered arrival sequence.
"_yoast_wpseo_estimated-reading-time-minutes":"
3075
post-1264267","hoog_project","type-hoog_project","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","hoog_category-exterior-design
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.4 (Yoast SEO v27.4) -
