Behind the historic shell, two apartments have been reworked with custom interior design that keeps each level distinct while linking them through a lift. The result is a pair of luxury apartment interiors shaped by measured transitions: kitchen to living room, bedroom to dressing room, bathroom to shower room, then out to garden or terrace. Nothing here feels overdescribed. The materials do the speaking.

Open rooms that pull the garden inside

In the lower apartment, the ground floor reads almost like one long sequence from the kitchen to the windows facing the garden. Daylight lands on the marble island and the pale timber fronts before it reaches the living area. A rounded slab on the island softens the straight run of cabinetry, while a suspended lamp with an organic profile interrupts the geometry above. The kitchen tap sits low against a narrow sink, finished in brushed dark platinum, a small dark note that picks up the timber panelling and the veined stone.

Outside, the garden adds another layer to the layout. It is not just a view from the back of the house; it is part of the daily route through the apartment. A small garden house sits within the planting and is used as both office and guest room, which gives the ground-floor home a broader domestic range than the rooms alone suggest. The open kitchen with daylight benefits from that connection, because the glazing keeps the garden present even when the doors stay closed.

Marble, timber and a restrained kitchen line

The kitchen avoids visual noise. Pale surfaces, wood cladding on the fronts and marble with dark veins set a quiet rhythm, while the curved edge of the island changes the pace. On the counter, the tap rises as a slim vertical line rather than a decorative object. That restraint matters in a room where the island, the sink and the pendant lamp already create their own composition. It is a clear example of custom interior design: each element is adjusted to the room instead of being dropped in as a standalone feature.

The living room shifts the mood without breaking the vocabulary. Soft textiles and generous seating keep the room low and grounded, while the fireplace and chandelier introduce a more classical register. Beige and cream tones are used in broad surfaces rather than small accents, so the room reads as calm and open, not empty. From there, the apartment moves downward through sliding doors to the bedroom, bathroom and dressing room, which are connected closely enough to feel like one suite but still allow each room its own surface and light.

A suite-like lower level with a marble and wood bathroom

Sliding doors change the character of the lower floor. They gather the bedroom, bathroom and dressing room into one route, then separate them again when needed. In the dressing room, the wall-mounted mixer in brushed platinum sits beside the mirror, basin and wall lights as part of a tightly framed composition. The bathroom steps back a little more, letting the marble and wood bathroom surfaces carry the room. Stone patterns and timber grain are what register first; the fittings follow that material lead rather than competing with it.

The bathroom detail visible in the images reinforces that approach. A round mirror hangs above a vanity with a marble top and dark wood base, and the tiled wall behind it introduces a denser brown field that gives the room weight. In another view, twin basins share the same rhythm of marble, wood and circular reflection, with slender wall lights flanking the mirror. It is a small but telling instance of a round mirror bathroom: the mirror softens the harder lines around it and keeps the wall from reading too rigidly.

Upper-floor rooms with green and gold accents

The second apartment occupies the upper part of the townhouse and extends its living spaces outward with a rooftop terrace and a balcony on each floor. That outdoor access changes the feel of the plan. Rooms can open to air and light at more than one level, so the apartment has a looser relationship to the building than the lower home. Inside, the palette shifts. Green and gold accents appear against the same open structure, but they add a different temperature to the rooms, one that is richer and more decorative than the pale timber-and-marble setting below.

The staircase sets that tone before the main rooms even begin. Decorative deer antlers and an oil painting with a hunting scene give the stairwell a nostalgic register, and that older mood is then interrupted by cleaner lines in the adjoining rooms. The apartment does not settle on one era or one reference. It moves between them. A wall in deep green, a dark wood vanity, a round mirror and brushed metal fittings can sit beside a more expressive bedroom wall without flattening the contrast. The space gains interest from that shift in emphasis.

Bathroom surfaces that hold the room

In the upper bathroom, the strongest image is the one made by surface and shape together. Forest-green wall tiles form a dense backdrop, while the vanity in dark wood keeps the lower part of the room visually grounded. Against that, the round mirror and the reduced form of the wall-mounted mixer read almost spare. Brushed platinum gives the tap a cooler sheen, so it stands apart from the darker materials without pulling focus. The bathroom feels measured rather than sparse, and the adjacent bedroom echoes that through its more expressive wall treatment.

That relationship between rooms is one of the project’s quiet strengths. The bathrooms are not isolated showpieces; they are tied to the way each apartment is used and moved through. In one home, the mirror, basin and fittings sit in a careful line beside timber and stone. In the other, green tile, dark wood and a round mirror create a stronger contrast. Both rely on the same disciplined handling of material, which is why the luxury apartment interiors never feel repetitive even when the pieces are closely related.

Two homes, one historic structure

What ties the apartments together is not a repeated look but a shared attention to proportion. Both homes are arranged over two floors and connected by a lift, which gives the historic townhouse renovation a practical backbone. Yet each apartment follows its own route. One opens to a garden with a small house for work and guests; the other reaches outward through a rooftop terrace and a balcony on every level. Between those conditions, the project covers a broad range of domestic use without changing its language of stone, timber, light and controlled detail.

Across the pages of the house, the strongest moments are often the quietest: the round mirror catching light above a vanity, the marble island edge curving away from a straight run of cabinets, the dark tap set against pale surfaces, the green tiles holding their depth beside a wood base. These are small decisions, but together they give the renovation its character. The historic townhouse now contains two distinct homes, each tuned to its own routine, and both built from the same close reading of space.

Photography – Mart Goossens

Contributors:
Interior architects Sebastiaan van Maanen and Rames Caesar

Two apartments in a historic townhouse, shaped by bespoke interiors, daylight, marble, wood, garden access and rooftop outdoor space.
"_yoast_wpseo_estimated-reading-time-minutes":"
34,60
post-1273074","hoog_project","type-hoog_project","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","hoog_category-badkamer-inspiratie","hoog_category-keuken-inspiratie
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.4 (Yoast SEO v27.4) -
