Sculpted wood slats, dark wall planes and a curved bar set the tone before a plate is even served. In this restaurant interior refresh<\/span>, the existing fine dining setting was not replaced, but adjusted with a series of precise changes. Routing was reconsidered, seating comfort was refined, and the lighting was layered so the room reads with more depth from table to table. The result is a restaurant interior design update that stays close to the original concept while making space for the next phase of the restaurant\u2019s development.<\/p>\n

From a full concept to a measured update<\/h2>\n

Six years earlier, the complete interior for Alma had already been designed, spanning the livelier ground floor and the more restrained fine dining level above. That earlier framework gave the project a clear language to work from: timber, glass, soft light and a calm sequence of spaces. When the restaurant\u2019s culinary path moved forward, the interior did not need to start over. Instead, this fine dining interior was revisited with a clear brief: improve the experience without erasing what was already there.<\/p>\n

The intervention stayed focused on the parts guests feel immediately. Paths through the room were clarified, the arrangement of seats was adjusted, and the custom elements were fine-tuned rather than replaced. That makes the project read as a restaurant interior design case study built on continuity. The room still carries the original atmosphere, but the edges are sharper now, and the movement between entrance, table and bar feels more considered.<\/p>\n

A custom bar design framed by slats and glass<\/h2>\n

The bar is the most direct expression of the upgrade. A rounded composition anchors the space, with vertical wood slats forming a rhythmic frame around glass and open niches. Behind the front, bottles and glassware sit within a darker recess, so the display does not shout; it appears in layers as the eye moves across the bar. This custom bar design is not a standalone object. It connects to the seating around it and helps guide the room\u2019s circulation.<\/p>\n

Seen from different angles, the bar\u2019s curves soften the room\u2019s geometry. A light-toned top edge contrasts with the darker enclosure beneath, while the slatted sides catch small changes in light. In the glass niche in bar detail, the reflections shift subtly rather than brightly, which keeps the focus on the materials themselves. Wood, glass and metal work together here in a way that feels measured, not decorative for its own sake.<\/p>\n

Small changes with a clear spatial effect<\/h3>\n

The upgrade did not rely on a dramatic gesture. Its strength lies in the quieter moves: better routing means fewer awkward turns between tables; the seating layout gives more room to sit and settle; and the custom joinery supports the way guests move through the restaurant. These are the parts that can be overlooked in a photograph, but they shape how long a table feels usable and how open the room reads when it is full. The wood slat interior also gives the room a firmer edge without closing it down. The vertical lines organise the bar and adjacent wall surfaces, making the space feel structured while leaving enough visual breathing room around the tables. Warm ambient lighting is used in layers rather than as a single wash. Pendant lights hang above the tables, while softer light falls across dark wall surfaces and the back bar. That contrast gives the room depth, especially in the images where the lamps appear as glowing points against brown and black planes. The lighting does more than brighten the interior; it sets up the contrast between table, wall and niche, so each part of the room remains readable in the evening.<\/p>\n

In one view, the hanging fixtures form a loose rhythm over the dining area, with glass elements catching the light and reflecting it back into the room. In another, the light is pulled into a more vertical composition, emphasising the height of the space. Several images place the tables close to the window zone, where daylight meets the warmer interior lighting. That mix gives the room a different pace from day to evening. Glasses, table linen and the curve of the nearby banquette read clearly against the darker background, and the textiles absorb some of the contrast. The result is a fine dining interior that feels more settled without becoming heavy.<\/p>\n

Rounded forms appear throughout the project, from the bar\u2019s outline to the softer transitions at the seating edges. In the wide views, the shapes guide the eye across the interior in a gentle arc, while the table settings and lamp clusters anchor the perspective. The material palette stays close to what is visible in the images: wood, glass and metal, with dark brown surfaces, warm beige textiles and black framing elements. Nothing is overstated. Instead, the surfaces are allowed to do the work. Glass catches the lamps; wood absorbs and repeats the light; metal gives a thin line where the bar or fixture needs one. It is also visible in what has been removed from the foreground: clutter, overstatement and visual noise. ZOUT Ontwerphuis was involved again as a design partner, returning to a space that already had a clear starting point. That continuity matters. It allowed the interior to be revised with precision, using the existing framework as a base for the latest changes.
