The old bread factory Lubro has a rich history in Utrecht. For years, bread, rusks and cookies were baked in the large bakery in the middle of town. When the plant closed its doors in 2004, the flour silo was demolished and the former bakery and associated offices remained quiet for many years. But after more than 10 years of vacancy, life has been breathed back into the old Lubro premises: six iconic townhouses have been built in the former bakery, and the office building has been converted into apartments and hospitality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Commissioned by Hurks Bouw, interior design and realization agency The Home Factory contributed ideas for the layout and living style. They made living in a spacious factory hall a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dekton Radium and Trilium in industrial heritage<\/strong> For example, in one of the townhouses, the kitchen is placed in the center of the building, with the kitchen functioning as a piece of furniture and extension of the living room. Dekton Radium was chosen for the kitchen countertop, this color has a weathered look in various shades of brown and fits perfectly with the building and its history. The risers of the stairs adjacent to the kitchen were also done in the same Dekton material. The same material appears in the surround of the fireplace with matching worktop. Thus, the two spaces communicate nicely with each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the bathroom, another industrial color of Dekton was chosen: Trilium. Here the material was used in the floor and back wall of the shower. In the industrial building, old elements such as window frames, pillars, brick and steel were preserved and used as an accent and frame for a beautiful modern living space. Furthermore, each home has its own unique look and layout, with The Home Factory elaborating the home according to the client’s desire and situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Radium and Trilium are based on the beauty of weathered, rusted metals with irregular, organic patterns. By choosing Dekton Radium and Trilium, in addition to an industrial look, a choice was made for durability. Not only are all Dekton colors produced carbon neutrally, but these particular colors consist of 80% recycled materials making them extra sustainable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
