Angled planes, small shifts in the caps, and the sweep of the thatch give the villa a profile that settles into its setting without disappearing into it. From the first view, the house reads as a composition of roof, brick, and glass, with daylight catching the openings and the darker parts of the facade holding the mass of the building together. The thatched roof villa feels rooted in place because the geometry stays legible at every turn.

thatched roof villa as the architectural starting point

Multiple dormers and chimneys break up the thatched roof and keep the silhouette from becoming too heavy. The bends in the roof planes are subtle, but they matter: they pull the eye across the volume and mark where one part of the house meets another. That structure is especially clear in the main roof, where the thatch softens the line while the brick walls beneath give it weight. In the finished view, the roof does not sit as an accessory; it defines the building’s proportions.

Seen from the front, the thatched roof villa has a steady rhythm of openings under the eaves. White window frames, dark shutters, and the brick masonry below create a measured contrast, while the thatch above keeps the outline visually soft. The roof edge sits close to the windows in some places and lifts higher in others, which gives the house a varied reading even from one angle. This is where craftsmanship thatching becomes visible as part of the architecture, not just the covering on top.

thatched roof villa as the architectural starting point

The material mix is direct and easy to read. Brick facades sit beneath the thatch, and the rougher textures of wood appear in smaller areas, giving the villa a grounded base. Nothing is overly polished. The brickwork carries the weight of the walls, while the thatch breaks the mass into a softer upper layer. That contrast is strongest where the surfaces meet: at the roof edge, along the window surrounds, and around the rounded extension, where the brick facade and thatch are pulled into the same view.

Dark masonry details and a low, solid plinth add another layer to the composition. They keep the lower part of the house visually anchored, especially near the garden path and the gravel strips beside the walls. The result is not a flat elevation but a house assembled from clear parts. The brickwork, the thatch, and the wooden textures each stay visible, and each one has a specific role in how the villa is read from the outside.

A rounded bay under a thatched roof

The rounded bay is one of the most expressive elements in the project. Its curved form shifts away from the straight lines of the main body and is topped with the same thatched material, which makes the extension feel part of the house rather than a later addition. Large panes of glass wrap around the curve, drawing light deep into the interior and opening the view toward the terrace. The rounded bay thatched roof gives the elevation a softer edge without losing the firm brick base below.

That curve also changes how the facade is experienced at close range. Instead of a single front plane, the wall bends toward the garden, and the glazing follows that movement. The eye moves from brick to glass to thatch in one sweep. In a project like this, the architecture gains depth from the shift in shape, not from ornament. The bay gives the villa a clear focal point and a useful one too, since it expands the view and brings in more light through the wider openings. That makes the thatched roof villa part of the architectural character rather than a loose finish.

Light, shutters, and broad openings

Broad glazing is woven through the house in a way that keeps the exterior active. Large windows and doors sit beside smaller framed openings, and the white trim stands out against the brick. Dark shutters appear in several places, adding a strong vertical note beside the glass. These elements make the walls feel less closed and more responsive to the garden around them. The daylight that enters through the openings is part of the design story; it is visible in the way the glass interrupts the heavier brick surfaces.

From the side of the house, the windows are spaced to follow the volume rather than flatten it. The thatch projects above them, the brick sits beneath them, and the glazing cuts through the middle. That layered reading becomes clearer around the gravel path and planting beds, where the materials are seen at close range. A thatched roof villa depends on those small transitions: roof to wall, wall to opening, opening to garden. Here, each one is visible and deliberately kept in view.

Pool terrace and the edge of the plot

The outdoor setting extends the project without overpowering it. A pool sits in front of the house, edged by terrace paving that reads as a wide, usable surface rather than a decorative forecourt. The water introduces a sharp horizontal line against the brick and thatch, and the paved area gives the villa space to breathe in the landscape. In this villa with pool and terrace, the exterior ground plane is as much part of the composition as the walls and roof.

At the boundary, a fence with black metal bars and brick pillars closes the site with the same material logic seen on the house itself. The brick pillars repeat the masonry language of the villa, while the metal bars keep the edge light and open enough to see through. That detail matters because it ties the access line back to the architecture. The brick pillars gate fence marks the threshold without introducing another visual language, so the entrance remains tied to the house’s own rhythm of brick, thatch, and glass.

What the materials do at close range

The closer details are where the project becomes most convincing. The roof edge shows the thickness of the thatch. The brickwork has a firm, layered texture. The windows, shutters, and frames give the walls a measured pattern. None of these pieces tries to dominate, but each one changes the surface it touches. Around the rounded bay, the materials become especially readable because the curve slows the view and lets the eye follow the transition from masonry to glazing to roof.

That same clarity continues along the perimeter and across the terrace. Gravel, paving, planted edges, and the pool border create a set of hard and soft surfaces that suit the house’s material palette. The project never relies on one gesture alone. Instead, it uses the roof shape, the brick base, the glazed openings, and the external setting to build a house that reads as composed from the outside in. The result is a thatched roof villa where the main idea is visible before you even step closer: roof, brick, and light are doing the work.

Contributors:
Architect: Van Egmond Architecten
Construction: Verbij Hoogmade That makes the thatched roof villa part of the architectural character rather than a loose finish.

A thatched roof villa with brick walls, wide glazing, a rounded bay, terrace, pool, and brick pillars framing the entrance.
"_yoast_wpseo_estimated-reading-time-minutes":"
44
post-657122","hoog_project","type-hoog_project","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","hoog_category-design-zwembaden
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.4 (Yoast SEO v27.4) -
