The double Javaanse roof is the strongest gesture in the project. Its interlocking shape gives the house a broader presence, while the thatch softens the outline of the upper floor and the dormers. From different angles, the roof seems to change weight: compact in one view, expansive in another. That shifting profile keeps the composition lively without adding extra elements.<\/p>\n
Large overhangs sharpen the transition between roof and wall. They also make the dark lower band more legible, because the eye reads the plinth as a solid base under the lighter walls. The roof therefore does not sit as an isolated feature. It organizes the whole facade composition and ties the house to the annex and the covered terrace nearby.<\/p>\n
The white facade with dark plinth is simple in principle, but in this project it carries a lot of weight. The pale wall surfaces hold the main volume together and keep the mass from becoming heavy, while the darker basement line grounds the house on the plot. That contrast repeats in details around the openings, so the envelope never feels overworked. It stays restrained and direct, which suits the strong roof form above it.<\/p>\n
Dark brickwork returns in several places, linking the main house to the annex and the chimney near the covered terrace. The repetition is subtle rather than decorative. It gives the different parts of the ensemble a shared material thread, even though each volume has its own role and expression. The annex reads as part of the same family of forms, not as an afterthought.<\/p>\n
Only a limited set of materials is used, and that restriction is what holds the project together. White wall surfaces, a dark plinth, dark masonry, glass and thatch are enough to build the rhythm across the site. Because the palette is not expanded unnecessarily, the house, outbuilding and canopy remain visually connected. The details may change from one volume to the next, but the language stays consistent.<\/p>\n
On the garden side, large glass windows open the house toward the outside. Dark frames make the openings read as clear cuts in the wall, and they also echo the darker masonry below. Seen against the lawn and borders, the glazing gives the house a lighter edge. It brings daylight deep into the rooms and allows the long facade to break into larger and smaller pauses rather than a single continuous plane.<\/p>\n
The garden itself is kept calm: lawn, borders and paved strips define the outdoor setting without competing with the architecture. That restraint matters, because the house already carries a strong roofline and a layered material composition. The exterior space supports the building instead of trying to dominate it.<\/p>\n
One of the clearest technical gestures is the covered terrace with a free span of 14 meters. It creates a broad sheltered zone without a forest of supports interrupting the view. Under that canopy, the chimney and the dark masonry details continue the material language of the house. The terrace reads as a room in its own right, but one that remains open to the garden and linked to the main volume by the same visual code.<\/p>\n
The long span changes how the outside space is used. It leaves the edge open, so the transition from interior to terrace stays broad and unobstructed. In the images, the overhang also sharpens the shadow line beneath the roof, which makes the canopy feel lighter than its size suggests. That contrast between reach and visual weight is a recurring theme in the project.<\/p>\n
The annex follows the same discipline as the main house. Its modern form, dark brick accents and measured openings keep it from breaking away from the rest of the composition. The result is not a collection of separate objects, but an ensemble where each part repeats and adjusts the same rules. Even the shift from thatch to masonry feels deliberate, because the palette remains narrow and readable.<\/p>\n
That approach works especially well at the edge of the site, where the house sits between open countryside and a larger new-build plan. The project does not copy either context. Instead, it uses the roof, the plinth and the annex to draw a clear outline around the dwelling and its outdoor rooms. The architecture keeps its distance, but it still relates to the setting through scale and material restraint.<\/p>\n
The interior continues the same calm material logic. In the entrance, a green wall draws attention in the narrow passage, where black-framed glass doors and light grey floor tiles set a crisp background. The kitchen uses wood storage volumes and a mosaic tile wall around the working zone, which adds texture without breaking the overall order. Large floor tiles keep the surfaces visually open, letting the rooms read as broad and connected.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere, the house relies on daylight and built-in elements rather than heavy decoration. The dining area sits under round pendant lamps, with large windows bringing in direct garden views. A wooden built-in wall introduces open niches, while the stair and upper level show pale walls and timber steps. In the bathroom, decorative tiles and a round mirror appear under a sloped ceiling with recessed spotlights, a smaller composition that still follows the same disciplined use of material and light.<\/p>\n
Across the whole project, the strongest impression comes from how few moves are needed to hold it together. The double Javaanse roof sets the character, the white facade with dark plinth anchors the house, and the annex and canopy continue that same line in a quieter register. Large glass openings, a modern garden and a restrained interior palette complete the picture without changing the basic idea.
