Belgrave Mews South

Our clients are Hong Kong based family and this three bedroom Mews House in Belgravia London had been used for some years as a London base for their children whilst studying in the UK. As the house didn’t need to be used for that purpose anymore and was extremely tired, the client decided to undertake extensive renovation of the entire property. Their plan was to rent it in the prime London market, and possibly use it as a second home themselves at a later date.

Our brief was to provide a high end, luxurious look to broadly appeal to the tenants they wanted to attract, and to ensure it also reflected their own taste; they wanted a chic boutique hotel look whose styling would also sit well within this period Mews House. It should have simple, lasting style and whilst being beautiful, had to function practically both in terms of best use of space and the materials selected.

With this in mind, the space was completely redesigned to incorporate a spacious open plan double reception room, dining room with access to the kitchen with casual eating area, and three bedrooms each with their own ensuite bathroom. It was complimented by lighting design and bespoke joinery throughout to maximize the available storage.

We thought a timeless, minimal luxe look was key to meeting the brief and to achieve this we chose to accentuate the theme of quality and craftsmanship, and this is echoed throughout the house; from it’s hardwood floors in a light grey oak, the addition of handcrafted paneling in the hallway, and the stunning custom built bespoke kitchen, bathrooms and joinery. These core elements of the design all work together with the muted, neutral decorative palette that runs seamlessly throughout.

For the bathrooms we wanted to achieve the luxurious look of stone whilst being practical, so we chose durable yet beautiful marble look porcelain. The master bathroom is particularly striking as we used a textured black inset tile to make a border detail on the floor to give it definition and a stylish monochromatic look. The feeling of luxury is echoed with the beautiful freestanding bath that in its position just below the sash window adds a simple sculptural shape to the space, drawing your eye to the focal point of the room. We also incorporated additional wardrobe space by designing a row of bespoke floor to ceiling cabinets to provide essential extra storage.

The kitchen was also an important consideration as it originally had poor layout, inadequate storage and a lack of seating. We reconfigured the space to include ample cabinets, and a much needed breakfast bar. The joinery is in a combination of painted taupe grey and antique white to provide contrast. The worktop is made of Neolith Calacatta that replicates the simple beauty of stone marble but is extremely hardwearing. The scheme is accented by metallic bronze handles adding interest to the simple design of the doors. The look is a classic contemporary kitchen that has warmth and character together with light and spaciousness.

All the finishes throughout the house provide a perfect backdrop for the addition of a furniture package carefully selected and curated by us in order to dress the property for the rental market.

This is an elegantly designed interior; executed with exquisite attention to detail resulting in a home that is luxurious, timeless and meets it’s brief perfectly, reflecting the quintessential nature of a London Mews House.
