This contemporary farmhouse is an architectural gem that combines the best of both worlds: the cachet of a traditional farmhouse in a sleek design with a maximum of contemporary comfort. The garden design was created before construction started. In this way, both could be optimally coordinated. During the construction of the garden, the project took another turn: two building plots behind it were added so that the design almost doubled in size.

Glorious swimming pond

The garden was divided into different zones, just like in a traditional farmstead. From a terrace with pizza oven and wellness corner with spa to an orchard and a swimming pond with outdoor shower. The choice for a swimming pond was obvious: the residents also wanted to look out on a beautiful looking water feature in winter. That is why I situated the plant zone on the central visual axis of the house, and my gaze stops at a beautiful wall in stucco look with custom stainless steel water channels. The water feature is a feast for the eyes, with seemingly floating terraces and tiles, enchanting lighting and sophisticated greenery with colorful accents. The swimming area has been deliberately hidden from view, so as not to be disfigured when it is covered.

Thoughtful architectural elements

All “hard” elements such as the storage room, the built-in pizza oven, the entrance gates, … harmonize with the house – including a repetition of the chic roof moldings. The walls are either sleek in stucco look or clad with wood for a bit more warmth and a softer appearance. In terms of paving, there is a mix of Swedish granite boulders (driveway), baked clinkers (walkways) and Schellevis concrete (terraces and step tiles). All durable and natural materials with a robust appearance.

Grandiose green with splashes of color

This dynamic and varied garden captivates with peaceful grass areas, waving ornamental grasses, playful boxwood bulbs and decorative multi-stem trees. Furthermore, an orchard with old fruit trees, tight border areas in the shape of a vegetable garden, a flower meadow with native herbs and a good dose of flower bulbs for a color explosion in the spring. The green strip with shrubs provides privacy and is at the same time a dream biotope for birds. A row of pollard willows along the ditch borders the garden in a rural manner, while the evergreen block hedges add extra structure and demarcate the zones.
