Country home on the Mediterranean

Belgian customers asked JUMA architects to design a country residence. The vacant soil is characterized by a dense vegetation of pine trees and a slope overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Because it is a privilege to build in this unique context, it goes without saying for JUMA to preserve as many trees as possible so that they can take advantage of the natural shade they shed.

A staircase has been designed next to the driveway that descends immediately to the entrance. With this, JUMA wants to anticipate the slope of the site so that the first floor will be level with the street side. The bedrooms are located on this first floor, all of which have large windows. To avoid overheating, these windows are fitted with a sun blind consisting of fine, vertical wooden slats.

The floor plan unfolds in an L-shape, which is fully oriented to the side with the most spectacular view. The main volume of the L-shape contains the kitchen, while the other volume contains the seating area. In this way, both spaces embrace the terraces and guarantee privacy from the neighbors.

The terraces follow the natural slope of the terrain and form playful surfaces that eventually open onto the green-blue infinity pool.

In architecture, a horizontal play of lines dominates, which is created by different canopies that overlap. In some places, the awnings are provided with perforations to create an interesting variation in the incidence of light.

In terms of materials, JUMA opts for a combination of white, smooth plastering with a rough natural stone from the surrounding area.
