Detached house on the water

The beautiful house on Spaarne in Haarlem was to be inhabited by a young family. Their own taste and layout that they would enjoy for years to come was the assignment.

A lot has been sketched in the initial phase, in particular an extension on the ground floor would be desirable. But because the municipality did not give permission for this, indoor walls were slid in, creating a spacious living room where the whole family can enjoy themselves. An open kitchen as the heart of the house, a cozy sitting area with a large sofa and a conservatory where the children can go about during their youngest years.

The residents lived in a sturdy, elegant taste. Use of dark frames and a cool eye-catching kitchen. The copper-colored kitchen was an instant hit. Striking and functional. Symmetry in the back wall was quickly created, although there was not room for all four cabinets. A large storage cabinet that extends into a niche around the window covers an excellent mainstay near the kitchen and provides ample storage for belongings. The seating area by the window was high on the client’s wish list and was seamlessly processed in this way.

A sliding door has been placed in the rear facade, so that there is a spacious passage to the waterfront in summer. To prevent the incidence of light and to dress the room, inbetween curtains have been placed on wave. The indoor garage has been reduced to increase the seating area. An electric fireplace encloses the sitting area. Very child friendly. The space of the old kitchen was partly involved in the new kitchen and with a new entrance it serves as a utility room.

On the first floor was a spacious landing, with a small bathroom. We changed that. The landing has been adjusted and the bathroom has been enlarged to accommodate the whole family. A simple stylish look with practical elements. The master bedroom received a walk-in closet and a niche for the make-up table. All wishes are realized in this way. The first and second floors have also been completely renovated; electricity, lighting, paintwork, upholstery, floor and layout. A second dormer has been added on the second floor, so that there are two spacious rooms and a bathroom.

In short, a project in which there was intensive cooperation between client, contractor and interior architect. From design start to realization in one year. The clients are very satisfied with their family home, they can stay here for the coming years.
