Extraordinary mansion in Amsterdam

This unique mansion in Amsterdam contains a special heritage and history in itself. A traditional townhouse is often characterized by elongated rooms and double-sided light.

It is always a challenge to start with a well thought out light plan of natural light, contemporary lamps and room for candlelight. We also wanted to create a nice tension between the classic lines of the beautiful high ceilings and the long lines of the rooms on the one hand and the creation of domesticity and warmth through a challenging use of colors and patterns on the other. We used a royal but modern palette of shades of blue, in keeping with the characteristic historical value of the object.

The entrance is a jewel that immediately unfolds in all its fineness upon entering. The royal space is therefore supported by ditto colors and a tightly painted staircase lends itself perfectly to a typical British woolen “Roger Oates” runner.

In the family room, the bordeaux leather coffee table functions as the beating heart of the family room. The bold yet refined wallpaper in an ocher and gold, combined with the beautiful standing lamp, gives the whole an eclectic shine. The elegant and refined materials together form a well-considered and, above all, cozy overall picture.

The kitchen has a royal blue Hague color, supplemented with exclusive brass handles. The addition of a brass plate and walnut wood creates a rich ensemble that has also been implemented in the other rooms. The chic dining table and chairs with the chandelier “Leonie” (a Stock Design) create a warm overall picture. Small details such as the beautiful art, sculptures and old candlesticks blend seamlessly into the whole and give it a personal signature.

Carrara marble in a Hexagon shape was chosen for the floor of the bathroom. The decorative wallpaper forms a lush background for the antique mirror. In the bedroom we found a nice tension between “exciting” and “relaxing”. The light tones in combination with bold patterns made for a warm and cozy whole.
