Fly house Sint-Martens-Latem
The clients themselves had a very clear vision of how they wanted to live in their future home. They dreamed of a compact volume, preferably with a rectangular floor plan. Furthermore, a central fireplace, around which family life takes place, was on their wish list. JUMA set to work with this story. Especially the idea of positioning the fire in the middle of the house was greatly appreciated by JUMA architects. Not least because in the past this principle was often applied by JUMA’s great example and source of inspiration, architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

After an intense design process, this resulted in a zoning where the seating area, the dining area and the open kitchen will unfold around the cozy fire. All these spaces are neatly arranged within the proposed rectangular floor plan and of course without getting boring.

The concatenation of the various functions is accompanied by height differences to keep that important experience fascinating. The living room, for example, is located in a well to create a cozy feeling, while the breakfast corner is connected to the landing on the first floor via a void. The entrance, the toilet, the cloakroom and the stairs are oriented to the north and are located at the height of the facade that was previously closed.

One large framed window party forms an exception to the closed nature of the facade and allows the breakfast corner to be bathed in the morning light. Moreover, the pronounced window frame accentuates the presence of the void. The living spaces and the bedrooms are again south-west oriented to enjoy light and visibility as much as possible. The rear facade reflects this philosophy and is therefore fully open.
