Built in the 1970s and remodeled in 2018, we designed the 8,000ft2 home to be rooted in the site and blend with the environment.  The home is located on the Roaring Fork River and needed an extensive remodel in order to take advantage of the expansive views of the river and ranch.  Inspired by 19th century river cabins, we simplified the massing, opened up the floor plan and enrichened the materials.  The home incorporates reclaimed, salvaged and traditional materials.  Aspen trees, pastures, and the shimmering river influenced the selection of using the large Poplar bark shingles, reclaimed Hemlock trim, and a unique trapezoid corrugated roof in order to blend the home into the landscape.  The gable entry with hand carved round columns frame the hand-forged steel and glass entry door.  A large raised wood terrace with a soft edge blends into the landscape.  We utilized 18th century iron columns to support the light steel trellis.  Large stone pavers intertwined with thyme make the terrace; the stone runs thru the large threshold and into the dining. The interior is a refined rusticity using integral plaster colored by soil, reclaimed beams, hand-planed oak wood floors, stone and 19th century iron-fluted columns.
