Rotterdam rooftop garden

This roof terrace is on the fourth floor of a monumental building in Rotterdam. A steel structure was installed to support more weight. It also required a number of permits, complex building plans, and close consultation with the implementing parties. But as soon as the residents saw the detailed design plan in 3D, they were immediately sold.

Grandiose roof house The eye-catcher of this terrace is the largely glass roof house, the roof of which partly consists of slats, which are operated automatically. A macro shot of a dandelion in bloom on glass is displayed on the back wall. In the covered area it is nice to stay even in less pleasant weather.

Smart materials, good lighting The sturdy and sleek lounge seats have a steel frame and water-resistant cushions, which are both beautiful and practical. The light-transmitting table in Corian® is aesthetically highlighted with LED panels. That gives an attractive, somewhat futuristic glow. The most special element of this terrace is undoubtedly the glass fence. Glass gives a sense of spaciousness, but it also poses a risk for birds. To prevent them from bumping into the glass, the wall was made of “bird-safe” glass.

Pioneers with bird-safe architecture Birds never fly through cobwebs, because they can see the wire thanks to UV radiation. The progressive glass from a German manufacturer imitates this principle. In the UV-reflecting coating, birds see a pattern that looks like a spider web, while this is virtually invisible to people – an innovation that was rightly rewarded with a Red Dot Award for excellent design.

This exclusive roof terrace has everything: an amazing view of the Rotterdam skyline, a modern and lush appearance, and maximum comfort – happy residents and birds.
