Sint-Martens-Latem project

This home with practice space is very special for JUMA, because it is the design for their own home.

The fact that the plot is located in the second building line appeals to them very much because of the more lush surrounding greenery and the privacy that this entails. The long driveway leads to a cozy, receptive inner square with 3 volumes that are connected to each other. On the one hand there is the double garage with wooden façade cladding, on the other hand there is the architect’s office with separate access and finally there is the house itself. The 3 volumes vary in height each time, resulting in a very readable design.

The floor plan of the house is very extensive, because JUMA has a weakness for elongated, low forms. Even the children’s bedrooms are on the ground floor. Only the parental bedroom with dressing room and bathroom is located as a sort of separate suite on the first floor.

The orientation of the property is not ideal, but JUMA saw this as a challenge rather than a disadvantage. By designing a glazed walkway between kitchen and living space, a sort of intermediate garden / patio is created. In this way, more varied views are obtained instead of just focusing on the back garden.
