As one of the oldest houses in the Parvis neighbourhood of Rhode-St-Genese, Residence P was a great opportunity to not just bring an old house back to its original glory but to also modernize it to today’s lifestyle by sensitively introducing some modern interventions within it to enhance the house’s original beauty.

Built around 1928, the house has Art Deco elements such as its cast iron main entry door, central stairwell and various elegant marble and sandstone fireplaces, which are celebrated as focal points in the home through the renovation.

Atypical luxurious book matched marble slabs were carefully selected in the Art Deco spirit for both the master bathroom and the kitchen countertops and backsplash. The kitchen received a granito flooring that makes the transition between the original oak parquet of the dinning room and the original cement tiles of the mudroom corridor.  Ultra-Modern black and white millwork was introduced to not compete with the richness of the wood grain original doors.  The original hardware was refurbished and reinstalled throughout the house.

Some walls were removed to increase openness and flexibility in the main level of the house where living, dinning and family spaces allow for entertaining large number of people at one time.

The outdoor landscape designed by DuoVerde was also carefully considered working around the house’s original landscaping adding new planting and pruned hedges to help define various uses in the outdoor spaces.

This work is a fine example of timeless elegance with a fresh modern intervention that is celebrated with the simple use of natural light and well thought colour palette.
