Mijntje van den Berk and Marjolein Kap are both interior architects and architectural designers. Since 2014, they have worked together as studio kap.studio, focusing on the design of homes, interiors, new-builds, renovations, outdoor spaces, and furniture and product design.

kap.studio believes that the environment we move through has a major influence on the way we live. They strive for designs that are clear, legible, and sustainable. Aesthetic quality and meticulous detailing are important, but a living or working environment must first and foremost make sense. The circulation has to work, people need to be able to orient themselves, and everything needs its place. This relates to both functionality and to light, sightlines, and the use of materials and color. The emphasis is on spatial quality, contrasts, proportions, and views. Inside and outside are connected. The aim is to balance all of these aspects.

For Marjolein and Mijntje, sustainability means that, in addition to a conscious choice of materials and energy measures, a design must also stand the test of time, both in use and in appearance. At kap.studio, the level of finishing is always high. The studio respectfully combines the old with the new of today and tomorrow. Modern additions and historical qualities reinforce each other through contrast.

The ambition is to create clear spaces that are liveable and comfortable, suit the users’ lifestyle, and do justice to the building.

The studio ensures that every build or renovation bears the signature of KAP+BERK while also reflecting the client’s identity. As a result, every design is unique and personal. The more dynamic the collaboration between client and interior architect, the stronger the result. Each brief is re-examined from the ground up, and solutions are sought that fit the specific assignment. A pragmatic and analytical approach produces designs that are original and authentic on the one hand, and on the other hand fit the situation so naturally that they seem self-evident.
