Home with loft-style open plan and continuous roofline

The roofline keeps running into the walls, so the house reads as one long form rather than a box under a pitched top. At the gable ends, the visible roof truss structure is left in view and filled with wood panels and glass, which gives the elevations a clear rhythm. On the left side, the sloping boundary line is followed closely, making the eaves rise almost imperceptibly as they move along the plot.

A roof that folds into the walls

That continuous roofline into facade is the first thing you register from outside. It turns the edge between roof and wall into a single gesture, and the result is easier to read than a layered profile with separate parts. The exterior surfaces keep that clarity: vertical wood cladding, broad panes of glass, and dark frames set against lighter wall fields. The composition is spare, but never flat, because the openings break the surfaces at regular intervals.

In the gable ends, the visible roof truss structure does more than mark the structure. It becomes part of the image of the house. Wood infill sits between the structural lines, while glass softens the heavier parts and lets daylight reach deeper in. Seen together, the ends of the building reveal how the roof is carried and how the envelope is opened without losing its legibility.

The rear line that turns into the floor

At the back, the facade line drops into the level of the upper floor, a move that changes the way the volume is read from inside. Instead of a conventional back wall holding the house closed, the line shifts and extends the interior section upward. That spatial adjustment is what makes the plan feel loft-like: one open room, few interruptions, and the structure and envelope working as a single sequence.

The loft-style open plan is not left empty. Its supporting functions are gathered into one block: toilet, meter cabinet, cloak area, stairs, and the kitchen storage wall. That cluster keeps the perimeter open and frees the rest of the plan for long sightlines. You can look across the room without meeting a series of small partitions, and the blocks that remain are placed where they can hold the plan together instead of breaking it up.

Central kitchen layout with room to shift

The central kitchen layout sits at the middle of that open room like a hinge. Because the kitchen is not pushed to one side, the seating area and dining area can swap positions at the front or the back. The result is practical, but it also changes how the room is used over time. Morning light, afternoon sun, and views toward the garden can all take a different role depending on where the table or sofa is placed.

The kitchen wall with wood paneling reinforces that central position. It reads as a single built element rather than a loose collection of cabinets, and the darker lower fronts ground the composition. In the images, the wood surfaces sit beside large openings and a pale floor, so the kitchen becomes both a storage wall and a visual marker in the middle of the interior. The arrangement gives the room a clear midpoint without closing off the space around it.

From one angle, the kitchen wall with wood paneling is almost architectural furniture. The panelled upper section, the dark base cabinets, and the working surface align in straight bands. That precision matters in an open plan because the kitchen has to carry more than cooking functions. It has to hold the room together without becoming heavy, and the material contrast helps it do exactly that.

Light, glass and long sightlines

Large windows keep the interior tied to the garden, and the dark frames sharpen the openings against the lighter walls. The room is never read from only one direction. Instead, the viewer moves through a series of framed views: toward the terrace, across the living zone, and back to the kitchen. A high ceiling and visible spotlights add to that sense of breadth, but the atmosphere comes from the layout first, not from decoration.

One of the most useful things about the plan is how the open room can support different daily scenes without changing shape. A sofa can sit toward the front while the dining table shifts to the back, or the arrangement can turn the other way around. Because the central kitchen layout stays fixed, the rest of the room can vary. That flexibility is built into the plan rather than added afterward.

Material shifts that keep the space readable

Inside and out, wood and glass do most of the work. Vertical wood cladding on the exterior gives the volume a clear grain, while the interior wood paneling gives the kitchen wall a calmer, more enclosed surface. Between those two readings, the house moves from envelope to furniture-like insert. The change is subtle, but it keeps the spaces understandable at a glance, which matters in a plan with few internal divisions.

The images also show how the open room is tied to the outside by broad glazing and straight floor lines. In the garden, a clean lawn and tiled terrace sit close to the house, so the boundary between inside and outside is visually thin. The same logic appears in the bathroom, where large tile surfaces, a walk-in shower glass screen, and a round mirror keep the room plain in the best sense: no clutter, only the elements needed to read the space clearly.

A house organized around one strong line

What stays with you is not a single decorative detail, but the way the house is organized around a few strong moves. The roofline continues into the facade, the structure is visible in the gable ends, and the rear line turns into the floor level to open up the interior section. Those decisions shape how the home is seen from outside and how it is used inside. The open room remains flexible, but it is not vague; every part has a place in the larger order of the plan.

That makes the project easy to read without feeling rigid. The center holds the kitchen and storage functions, the edges stay open to light, and the structural lines are allowed to show. In that combination, the house gains its character through alignment and restraint rather than extra gesture. The result is a home with loft-style open plan and continuous roofline that explains itself through section, structure, and the way the rooms move around a central core.
