Bob Manders is an architect who brings together the past and a passion for innovation. He draws on the best of his Dutch heritage — for example, an appreciation of Rembrandt’s use of light — and combines it with architectural principles from masters ranging from Vitruvius to Le Corbusier, alongside his own distinctive approach. The result? Unpredictable yet harmonious spaces that feel at home anywhere in the world.
Manders believes that a thoughtful respect for light, shadow, and the way nature influences our surroundings is key to the success of his designs. He makes frequent use of glass to connect the interior with the world outside. In the same way, the natural materials he chooses often retain traces of how they were made: wood may still show the marks of a saw, or a stone tile may reveal the quarry it came from or an imprint of the tool used to polish it. According to Manders, this preserves authenticity and creates designs that are both calming and energizing.
