Residence BR – Private Residence – Rhode-St-Genèse

Situated on the outer south edge of Brussels in Rhode-Saint-Genèse, Residence BR is a renovation and addition to a previously built single family house.   Unfortunately, the house’s original layout was unable to provide the owner the necessary additional spaces needed including a better functioning kitchen and dining area as well spacious master bedroom with larger ensuite and dressing area.

The house’s new design provides more daylight with floor to ceiling glass windows as well as upper level terraces enabling one to enjoy outdoor private access and views down to its pool and garden. In its entry area, an elegant spiral stair greets us like a modern sculpture that becomes a feature between the kitchen/dining spaces and the living spaces.

Stunning book-end quartzite slabs are found in both the kitchen’s island/bar and it’s work areas acting as a soothing warm backdrop to the adjacent dining room.

One of the challenges when working around the original house’s structure was the need to maximize in ceiling height.  Special consideration was taken on how to deal with technical systems evident by how it’s structural steel beams are also used to incorporate the room’s lighting fixtures.

The outdoor landscape designed by DuoVerde was carefully considered to help define various uses in the outdoor spaces.

This work is a fine example of timeless elegance with a fresh modern intervention that is celebrated with the simple use of natural light and a well thought colour palette.
