BAU-WAU HAUS
Situated in the exclusive Monument Manor subdivision of Joshua Tree, California, “Bau-wau Haus” is a repurposed homestead originally built in 1955. In the 1990s two separate structures were added to the initial two buildings for then-owner Francette Mace, a 1980s fashion guru and TV actor. Starting in 2019, when the homestead was purchased by an artist couple, alterations were made to the existing structures to exploit the spectacular surrounding desert views. Almost half of the main concrete house was demolished and rebuilt, and the roof was raised with 50 linear feet of steel and glass. Other structures were converted into a private sleeping quarters and an artist’s studio.
Most materials were repurposed from the original build, custom furniture by Furbishure
