Architect Jeroen de Nijs’ spectacular project, which was featured on the program The Perfect Rebuilding on RTL4, is still fresh in viewers’ minds. A simple 1970s home has been transformed into a stylish thatched-roof villa where a young family can live, relax, cook, play and work around a beautiful courtyard garden. It is a dream home that anyone would want to live in.

The design retained the strength of some of the beautiful elements of the original home, but also created a strong connection to the outdoor space. All residential functions flow organically into each other and are in direct contact with the garden. Thanks to the loft-like floor plan, people are connected throughout the house, which is enhanced by the loft present on the first floor.

A striking feature of the design is the indoor patio, which acts as a natural connection between the different zones and allows daylight to penetrate deep into the house. The patio is a real eye-catcher and visible from all corners of the house.

When designing the home, we always have the interior experience in mind. We wonder how the space will be used so that every square meter is functional. The relationship with the outdoor space and the position of the sun are determining factors here. Therefore, the extension of the kitchen and the south-facing terrace were realized, while the new bedroom, bath and dressing room were positioned just north. These expansions were also important for the client to justify the investment. In addition, the house underwent an aesthetic metamorphosis by painting the masonry of the facade white and adding a thatched roof to the roof.

In this way, the dated 1970s home has been sustainably modernized and has a wonderful future ahead of it.
