Housing Vogelwijk
Total renovation with stylish extension in The Hague
The Vogelwijk is one of the most popular neighborhoods in The Hague. So when our clients wanted to move to the Netherlands from the United Kingdom, it was soon clear that they really wanted to live in this neighborhood. Close to the city, the beach and surrounded by greenery. However, the particular home they finally found needed a complete renovation.
After an extensive design process, during which many different variants were reviewed, a renovation with a compact addition was finally chosen. The addition is designed to match the house and made subordinate to the main volume. To still create sufficient headroom, the addition is slightly lower than the first floor. This translates into a playful layout as well as a living kitchen that is completely at garden level. The aa building has almost entirely glass facades on either side. The slender, steel frames give the addition an elegant appearance.
The interior is characterized by a mix of authentic elements, custom solutions and unusual use of color. The addition creates a somewhat more spread out living program on the first floor. Upon entering, it is not visible at a glance where the various functions are located. In the living room, the load-bearing wall is thickened by a custom cabinetry that includes a TV, china cabinet and fireplace. In the place of the old kitchen, a sitting area by the fireplace has been created and the entrance to the kitchen is located. All areas allow access to the beautifully landscaped garden.
