Loft Nijmegen
Monument converted from office to apartment building
The Estel building in Nijmegen is one of the youngest municipal monuments in the Netherlands. After years of being used as offices, it was decided to convert the property into an apartment building. Annette Bensdorp, interior designer at Delight of Living realized a sleek, spacious loft including a garden totaling 500 m2 in the former board meeting room.
Spatial design
Except for three walls and a glass front, nothing was predetermined for the layout the loft. In the 330 m2 apartment, Bensdorp designed a bright, modern living room with kitchen space and a large work area. Furthermore, there are three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a walk-in closet, all of which are equipped with high windows of no less than 3.5 meters.
Tight door surfaces
The black doors in the walls are tall and flat, with concealed hinges and magnetic locks. These fall away into the frame, revealing a sleek wall. The whole has a modern and stylish look. For the door hardware, the sleek olivari “link” door handles designed by Italian architect piero lissoni were chosen. “we found the beautiful, sleek olivari door handles in anthracite matte perfectly suited the design of the loft. Sleek, subtle and warm” said annette bensdorp.
Estel Building
The estel building has a skeleton of steel and glass. In 1977 it was completed as an office building with a progressive design for the time, featuring many terraces, balconies and (rooftop) gardens. In 2015, it was decided to convert the property into an apartment building. A total of 62 apartments were built, all of which differ from each other in area and layout.
